December 15, 2016      Happy Holidays!

Welcome to Our Newest Majors: Amanda Powell - AEG, Megan McNabb - Geol, and Kristina Vickers - AEG. Please do not hesitate to let us know how we can best support you with your goals. (Geol=Geology major, AEG=Applied Environmental Geosciences major, EST=Earth Science Teaching major).

Support Your Local Geo Association: Now is the time to renew your membership in the Utah Geological Association (UGA) for 2017. The UGA is the local professional society for all geoscientists interested in the geology of Utah. Not a member -- then now is a great time to join. Student memberships are only $5. Click here for more information.

Great Resources for Students on our Website: If you haven't already checked out this page, you'll want to do so! There you'll find great information about advising, student clubs, scholarships, our department newsletter, research & job opportunities, and so much more! Please help us spread the word so everyone knows these resources are there.

Math Prep Workshops Now Available: Developmental Math has a program to help you get ready for your next Math class. Whether it's been a while since you've take a Math class, or your prerequisite class has expired, these mini-courses may be for you. They are 3 hours long for 3 days, for a total of 9 hours each. After completion, you'll receive a prerequisite override so that you can continue on to your next Math class. View the informational video here!

New GEO Course for Spring 2017: Dr. Adolph Yonkee will offer a new upper-division course during Spring semester that will: (1) engage students with a wide range of lab, field and research activities; (2) explore the wide variety of career paths available to geoscientists; and (3) develop the skill sets widely used in upper-division geoscience courses. GEO 4750 will include 2 hours of lecture and 3 hours of lab per week for 3 credit hours, and will count as a geoscience elective in all departmental degree programs. Prerequisite: GEO 2050. Please see the attached flyer for more information.

Send Us Your Photos: We'd love to feature your geoscience-related photos in future issues of our newsletter! Whether you are on a field trip, working on a class project, or anything else on your own time, please pull out your phone and grab a few shots to send us. You can email them to geosciences@weber.edu, or bring them in on a flash drive. Thanks!

Next Newsletter Jan 06, 2017: This is the last newsletter for Fall 2016. Please watch for the first Spring 2017 issue to hit your mailboxes on Friday, January 06, 2017! Time keeps flying by - and, by the way, didn't they say we'd be driving "flying" cars by now?
