The Lake Of My Heart
The beauty of this place, inhabits every space.
Full of wind and water
As I roam I find myself calling it home
I find I truly love her
Brought along with sun is overwhelming fun
Throughout the summer days
down I dive, and soon I arrive
At the bottom, where I watch and learn her ways.
The palest pink dawn, the emerald green lawn
complement her ever changing blue
No other place on Earth can bring forth
such joy as the lake can brew.
This poem mimic’s Edna St. Vincent Millay’s poem “To The Not Impossible Him”. I choose to mimic the poem by using the same rhyme scheme as she did. The rhyme scheme is A,B,C,B with this being true for all three stanzas (in both Millay’s and mine). There is also an A,A internal rhyme in the first and third lines of each stanza. I also used a similar topic to write my poem. While Millay wrote her poem about what makes a place the best I wrote about a place close to my heart, Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire.
