This is a tribute to my mother.  In addition to being a model mother for me, she has been a loyal citizen of Pittsburgh, proud of the city’s accomplishments and traditions.  In search of employment, she came to Pittsburgh from Butler County during the Great Depression of the 1930s.  And ever since that time she has been one of the city’s many hard-working residents.  She is surely a part of Pittsburgh’s “blue-collar” history.

Despite hard times and bitter disappointments in her life, she was able to support herself and give help and encouragement to her son.  She instilled in him at a very early age the values that have sustained him throughout his life.

As an active church member she has used its teachings as a guide for life.  Always generous with her time and hard-earned money, she has gladly responded to those in need.  She thinks of others first, rather than herself.

A son is fortunate indeed to have such a mother who throughout her life has continuously demonstrated toughness and resilience, consideration and generosity, love and compassion.  A son could not have a better mother, and Pittsburgh, a better citizen.
