Dear Immigration Judge,
In the first paragraph introduce yourself, any details about yourself you want to share (completely optional), and your relation to Jose (a close friend, family, concerned community member, colleague, supervisor, etc.).
My name is _________, I am _____________ [Please describe the nature and quality of your work or role in the community. State in what capacity you came to know him or his family or that you are a concerned community member that trusts and believes that he should be released and why.] I’m writing to respectfully request that you release Jose Carlos Hernandez Perez from ICE custody or provide him with a reasonable bond. Jose deserves an opportunity to proceed with his case from what he calls home now, in the company of his daughter, wife, family members, and community that care about him. Jose is a hard-working father who lives and breathes for his family. Since his arrival, he has won over the trust and respect of many of us who have met him working hard to provide a better life for his family and his community. You can explain how you met, and/or explain why you are writing (to support Jose’s immediate release from ICE).
[In the following paragraphs detail the good qualities about him, especially mentioning his role as a father and provider for his family and his good moral character. ]
Jose is the primary breadwinner and is very involved in every aspect of his 14-year-old daughter. He needs to come home soon to continue supporting his family. He cannot return to his country of origin due to the violent conditions he and his family fled from. If Jose is removed, he will be subject to persecution and be killed as soon as he enters his homeland. His absence would mean that Jose’s daughter and his wife would be tremendously impacted financially and most importantly emotionally because they would be losing a father and husband, respectively. Jose has not only been a loving and hardworking father, but also has been a role model for his family, friends, and community around him. This large community is now supporting him and genuinely believes he is a good citizen and has already contributed to this country in many ways in the short time. This is a testament to the significant contributions he will make to our country.
More facts about Jose you can use in your letter:
Jose deserves an opportunity to be with his daughter, wife, and family. Simply, a removal order means the end of his life. A large community is now urging you to release him or release him on a reasonable bond while he petitions the court in his immigration case. He has strong community ties and will stay in Las Vegas throughout the duration of this case. He represents no risk to the community. On the contrary, Jose is a model community member. As such, please grant him a reasonable bond or release him under his own recognizance to be able to return to his family and save him from the dangerous conditions he faces in his country of origin.
