Fredrik Björn was born July 5, 1874, in Sunne, in the Province of Värmland, Sweden and moved as a child to the nearby village of Edsvalla, Nors Parish, where he began working in a local steel mill at age 13.  He emigrated to America from Göteborg, Sweden on September 14, 1898, aboard the “Cameo” and settled in Pittsburgh.  He worked as a roller for Oliver Iron & Steel and Jones & Laughlin Steel Corporation; working until the day he died, October 6, 1951, at the age of 77.

 

He married Emma Charlotta Carlsten on April 6, 1907, in Pittsburgh.  She was born in Edsvalla, Värmland, Sweden on January 1, 1885, emigrating to America on November 30, 1904 aboard the “Rollo” from Göteborg, Sweden.

 

Fredrik and Emma had two children, Tyra Fredrika Strader and Florence McLachlan and three grandchildren, Janet Strader Morgan, James David Strader and Richard Lowell McLachlan.

 

He was a kind and gentle man.
