False Bottom Alternative for Drilled Tanks

By Katherine T on Saturday, July 11, 2015 at 8:28pm

If you have a drilled tank, please read the comments below to see an alternative to a false bottom. Please keep in mind:

1) This can only be done on a drilled tank, like a tank with a sump.2) This idea is in beta - as far as I know, I'm the only person to try it, and it's being set up July 2015.

You will need:

1 drilled tank

2 bags of drainage rocks and/or river rocks (covers 1 ft)

1 bag aquarium-safe gravel (I used quikrete)

2 tubes of silicone (GE Silicone 1 or Marineland are the brands I know)

2 needlepoint canvases

You can also use a different solid media as a drainage layer (i.e. smashed terra cotta plants, just gravel, etc). Remember, the rest is visual so it is in the comments. I hope this is helpful!
