ROUND VS. SOUARELAYERS

You can Create differentlooks with round or Square layers. Just alter the Way you elevate the hair and how your hold your fingers.

How do you cut different types of layers?"Alayered cut" can mean a hundred different things. Whether we're talking about a bouncy afro or a voluminous lob, layers are often the secret behind a spectacular hairstyle.

Buthere's something you should know. Layers aren't just layers. There are actually two kinds: round and Square. Let's look at the differences between them.

DIFFERENT WAYS TO CUTLAYERS

There are two different ways to cut layers.

Round layers follow the shape of the head. When you cut them, you hold your fingers parallel to the head as you cut. This creates roundness within the cut and at its edges tOO.

When cutting round layers, yourfingers should follow the angle of the headlike the comb in the picture.

Square layers, on the other hand, require you to hold your fingers straighthorizontally when you're cuttinghair above the ear and vertically when you're cutting

hair below the ear. This creates a square shape within the hair and at the edge of the hair.

ཀ་། To cutsguare layers, hold your fingers straight and level, like the comb in the picture.

DIFFERENT LOOKS FROMDIFFERENT LAYERS

Cosmetologists create differentlooks using round and square layers.

Foraguest with around face, a cosmetologist might use square layers, creating corners to balance out the face.

For a guest with a square face, a hairstylist might use round layers to soften the face's angles.

To create a softer, Wispier edge to a haircut, a stylist might use round layers.

To create a heavier edge to a haircut, a cosmetologist might choose to use Square layers instead.
