I often wonder why March Madness creates such excitement and if it was what Mr. Naismith had originally intended when he invented basketball in 1891. Growing up, I had very little desire to watch any basketball, let alone, sports in general. I was always outside playing them. March Madness came into my life a year after I had graduated high school. It was the excitement of college life. It was excitement that came from bonding with friends on a college campus, rooting for our favorite teams. March Madness is now a tradition with family and friends. As a UConn Husky grad, I am all too familiar with the success and fervor that comes with a winning team. Our Lady Huskies are now in a 104-0 winning streak and striving for their 5th straight championship in NCAA Division I basketball. Go Huskies. Go Geno!
In a school setting, March Madness has become a tool to inspire my students to believe that college is and can be a real possibility for their path in life. Watching games is fun, team building, and inspiring to talk about where we went to college and where are students are thinking about college.
March Madness is a great way to bond with family and friends and also a great way to have college conversations with our children. Have fun if you do watch and if not, know we all at SkyView understand that March Madness is purely for the joy of life and spirit of college basketball. Enjoy your spring break! I know my staff and I at SkyView will, and we look forward to seeing you all back in class on Tuesday, March 28, 2017.
As always, your biggest fan,
Mr. Barrett :)
Be nice. Work hard.
“The invention of basketball was not an accident. It was developed to meet a need. Those boys simply would not play “Drop the Handkerchief.”

Assessment & Testing - Assessment Update
Students in grades 3-9 will need to bring headphones for PARCC testing. The PARCC English/Language Arts test contains video and audio segments on the test. Each student testing will need to bring a set headphones from home in order to hear these segments. Headphones may be brought to school any time before April 3. SkyView does not have the number of headphones needed for those students testing at one time. Please send in a pair with your child for this testing. Thank you!
We encourage parents to have their students take any state or district assessments. Each student/parent who chooses to opt out of an assessment, not only negatively impacts our school ranking but also deprives us of an important piece of data that we can use to improve student achievement. Consequently, we are asking all families to take our testing very seriously and to commit to our school improvement process by participating in each assessment that we administer. The opt out process can be found on our school website, skyviewacademy.org under the State Mandated Testing tab at the bottom of the page. If you have any questions concerning testing or opting out, please contact Paula Harrison firstname.lastname@example.org.
Here is a link to the CDE parent resource page. There is helpful information for parents concerning the PARCC and CMAS testing. http://www.cde.state.co.us/communications/resourcesforparents
