The itinerary and travel dates are customizable.

This initial itinerary is a sample itinerary and does not reflect any academic program. ARAMFO offers its travel courses to all fields of study. Therefore, our initial itineraries serve as a reference for the types of activates and locations available in the region. All customizations for academic programs are made on a case by case basis.

Initial Itinerary



Day 1
Arrival at Colombo

Arrival in Sri Lanka and transfer to Anuradhapura

Check in at hotel

Day 2

Morning visit:
Sacred ancient city of Anuradhapura

Founded in the 4th century B.C.m a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1982. Anuradhapura has the largest number of ancient monuments of the great Sinhala civilization which flourished in this region.

You will see the colossal Abhayagiri Stupa, Jetawanarama Stupa - the tallest stupa on earth and Ruwanmeli Stupa, the Isurumuni Vihara, Samadhi Buddha Statue as well as the Ruins of ancient royal palaces and museums. Another amazing site would be the ‘Sri Maha Bodhi’ or the sacred Bo tree grown from a branch of the very tree under which the Lord Buddha attained enlightenment – the oldest historically documented tree in the world – over 2200 years old.

Day 3
Anuradhapura - Habarana

After breakfast, we will go to Habarana, a small village with excellent hotel accommodation, a central location for all the ancient city sites.

Upon arrival in Habarana, check into a holiday resort. Spend the rest of the evening at leisure.

Day 4
Habaraba - Sigiriya - Habarana

After breakfast, leave for Sigiriya.

Climb the rock fortress of Sigiriya - a 5th Century "Fortress in the Sky". Built by King Kassapa the fortress was a Royal Citadel for more than 18 years. The lion rock (A UNESCO World Heritage Site) is a citadel of unusual beauty, rising 200 metres from the scrub jungle. The base of the rock is ringed by a moat and rampart and extensive gardens including the renowned water gardens. The majestic Lion’s Paw picturesquely guards the stairway of the palace on the summit. See the famous frescoes of the “Heavenly maidens” of Sigiriya in a sheltered pocket of the rock and the 10 foot high Mirror Wall.

Drive back to hotel in Habarana

Day 5
Habarana - Kandy

After breakfast, drive to Kandy. En route you will visit a spice garden in Matale.

Kandy, the bustling hill country capital is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is famous for the pink painted Temple of the Tooth which houses the most sacred religious relic, the tooth of the Buddha, the Kandy Lake built in 1807 which is an attractive centerpiece to the town.

Upon arrival in Kandy, check into a hotel.

After rest & relaxation, visit the sacred Temple of Tooth Relic. Monks conduct daily worship in the inner chamber of the temple. Rituals are performed three times daily: at dawn, at noon and in the evenings. On Wednesdays there is a symbolic bathing of the Sacred Relic with an herbal preparation made from scented water and fragrant flowers. This holy water is believed to contain healing powers and is distributed among those present.

At night, you will enjoy the Kandyan Cultural show at the Kandyan Arts & Cultural Centre. The show features the graceful and rhythmic dancers and drummers culminating in an impressive fire walking display.

Day 6
Kandy - Pinnawala
Pinnawala - Kandy

After the breakfast leave for Pinnawala and visit the Elephant orphanage.
This orphanage was set up by the government to take care of baby elephants lost or abandoned in the wild. Witness the feeding of the elephants. Thereafter observe them as they take their daily bath in the river nearby, which affords marvelous photo opportunities. Bath time is enjoyed by all elephants, young and old alike and it is a good time to closely observe their tightly knit family structure. Daily feeding times - 9.15 am, 1.15 pm, and 5.00 pm. bathing times – 10.00 am, 2.00 pm, and 4.00 pm.

Afterwards, visit the Royal Botanical Gardens in Peradeniya, where a rare collection of tropical exotic and indigenous flora including the famous Orchid House could be viewed. Royal Botanical Gardens attracts 2 million visitors annually. The Garden boasts of more than 4000 species of plants, including orchids, spices, medicinal plants and palm trees. Attached to it is the National Herbarium.

Drive back to Kandy.

Day 7
Kandy - Nanu Oya - Nuwara Eliya

After breakfast, we will spend a couple of hours at leisure.

We will then proceed to Peradeniya station to catch the train. Daily, the train leaves at 12:31 (driver leads you to the observation wagon and finds your seat for you and hurriedly makes his own way to the NanuOya station by car to meet you on arrival). NanuOya is the nearest station to Nuwara Eliya. A breathtaking view of the misty mountains covered with lush tea estates, steep mountain slopes, large number of tunnels is opened from the window of the observation wagon during this trip. The train reaches NanuOya station at 15:55. Driver picks you up at the station and transfers you to Nuwara Eliya.

Upon arrival in Nuwara Eliya, check into hotel.

Day 8
Nuwara Eliya

Continue our tour to Nuwara Eliya.
The beautiful town of Nuwara Eliya, set in the heart of Tea country and situated 1890 meters above sea level, is where the British succeeded in creating an English countryside with homes in styles from Georgian to Queen Anne.Check in at your hotel on arrival At your convenience commence a sightseeing tour of the city.

Visit the Nuwara Eliya Town, Market place, Golf Course, (one of the finest 18 holes Golf courses in Asia) the Hill club, and drive around this hill station viewing Lake Gregory.

Day 9
Nuwara Eliya - Kithulgala

After breakfast, we will leave for Kithulgala.

A small town perched on the hills that slope down to the flowing waters of the Kelani River. The main attractions include white water rafting; trekking and the Kelani Forest Reserve a popular bird watching location.

Upon arrival, check into hotel.

In the afternoon make your way to the Kelani River and enjoy a thrilling Time of White Water Rafting.

Day 10
Kithulgala - Negombo

After breakfast, we will drive to Negombo. Upon arrival in Negombo, check into hotel.

Relax your mind with the Golden sandy beaches in Sri Lanka.  Spend the day at leisure watching the waves as they bounce off the sun-kissed sands.
