Hartford: CT March for Science Scholarship Essay Contest
GENERAL INFORMATION
Due Date: Friday, June 30, 2017
The Hartford, CT March for Science took place on April 22, 2017 alongside satellite events in cities around the world in order to celebrate science and to demand evidence-based policy-making in government legislation. Thanks to the generosity of the scientific community and science enthusiasts within our home state of Connecticut, the Hartford, CT March for Science successfully raised substantial funding. We are offering a small number of one-time college scholarships in order to use these funds in a manner concordant with our overall mission.
We will offer three (3) total one-time scholarships to students who complete the essay prompt below. The first place prize winner will receive a $1,000 award. Two second place winners will receive a $500 award. Contest winners will also have their essays posted to our social media pages along with a brief bio of their academic pursuits.
Essay prompt:
How can we engage the community to further understand science and the important role it should have in government decision-making?
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
- Student must be enrolled at an undergraduate or graduate college or university in the state of Connecticut for the 2017-2018 academic year
- Student must be majoring in a STEM field
- Student should include in their application the following documents:
- Essay response up to 1,000 words in length
- Official transcript
- CV/resume
- Completed Hartford, CT March for Science Scholarship Form
Submit scanned materials via email to: ScienceMarchCT@gmail.com by June 30, 2017. Applications submitted after this date will not be considered.
NOTIFICATION & AWARDS:
Recipients will be notified in July and awards will be sent directly to their school by August, 2017.
