Lisa Trendell was awarded the January Member of the Month for
being ever present in representing the club at all five of the Southern Cross Country league events to date. Running for the club in the Ryde 10 mile race (HRRL event) Supporting both HERC and SGR by marshaling at the Stubbington 10K. Leading training sessions and group runs. Encouraging new members that join the club and for her charity fund raising work throughout the year. Phewww, well deserved Lisa.
We will be opening up membership renewals for 2014/15 within the next week. The objective of opening up the subs early is for those members that want to get their England Athletics competition license. The membership fee for existing First Claim members will be £25 for the period from 01/04/14 to 31/03/2015, however anyone renewing their HERC membership now will also get their EA license from now round to the 31st of March 2015. The cost of the EA license is included in the annual subs. For Second Claim members, the annual subs will be £20, pro-rata.
Charity Fund Raising
The club achieved its target of raising £5,000 for the MIND charity in 2013. This is a fantastic achievement for a new club such as ours and is a great reflection on the hard work and generosity of our members.
The charity of the year for 2014 is the Rainbow Centre in Fareham.
At The Rainbow Centre we inspire and support children with Cerebral Palsy and adults with a stroke, MS and Parkinson’s disease and their families. Through a system of learning called Conductive Education we encourage and teach our children/participants to take an active role in their own development.
The AGM is scheduled for Tuesday the 25th of March. As well as chance to review what the club did last year, elect new members to the committee, to give your opinion on what the club will do differently in the future and there is a good chance there maybe some cakes involved. It is your club, make sure you have your say.
This years Club Championship event will take place at the Netley 10K hosted by Southampton Athletics Club. The date is 18th May 2014 and the club is looking into the possibility of combining the race with a BBQ – watch this space for further details.
Don’t miss out on the upcoming local race ‘Salisbury 10M’ which is a picturesque race through the countryside of Wiltshire with PB potential.
Race Leagues (HRRL,SXCL & RR10)
The HRRL is completed across various road race events and points are scored by the club and individually. You enter any of the races as normal and by registering as a Hedgie runner you will automatically be part of the team depending on finishing position.
We are currently top of division 3 for both the men and ladies teams. A full list of fixtures for both leagues can be found below.
The Southern XC League is run on a similar format to the RR10’s which took place through the summer, obviously with a bit more mud in the offing.
The RR10 league is a series of races organised by running clubs in south-west Hampshire for their members. The races are held on Wednesday evenings during the spring and summer. Entry is free. All of the races are 4-5 miles off-road. The standard of runners varies from 5-minute milers to 12+ minute milers so, however fast you are, there will always be someone to run with.
