French 1.2

French 1.2 is an introductory course, designed to teach French on an ACTFL Novice Low/Novice Mid level. This course is taught primarily in English.

By the end of this course, students will be able to speak and communicate using memorized phrases and isolated words, and respond simply to direct questions.  Their focus is on recycling known vocabulary as they learn new concepts. Using the language alphabet, they can write familiar words and phrases and fill out basic forms with biographical information. They write on well-practiced, familiar topics. Students will listen for recognition of words and high frequency and will practice reading words and phrases that are easily recognized in context or borrowed from other languages.

Content in the course includes hobbies, food, family, places, animals, shopping, and weather.  Students speak in present tense language, conjugate the verbs faire and jouer and explore comparatives, superlatives, and adjectives.  Students can ask and answer questions.

Expectations for the student include completing writing and speaking assessments, active engagement in their own learning, practicing vocabulary over time, comprehending grammar patterns, practicing negation, participating in simple conversations and speaking prompts, and analyzing and comparing cultural food, entertainment and perspectives of Quebec.
