Dear Mr Laszlo.

Thank you ever so much for your charming letter, but it is I who will be a proud man not only in having been lucky enough to find so charming a bride but to have her portrait painted by you [3534].[1]

My mother[2] tells me also that you have asked her if you might paint a sketch of my father as a wedding present from yourself [3541]. I really cannot say how pleased I was when I heard it, if you do this it will be a thing that my family will treasure forever. I am too grateful to you.

Yours v. sincerely

Aspley

[1] Lord Apsley and Violet Emily Mildred Meeking (1895-1966) were married on 27 February 1924. The portrait [3534], which was a wedding gift from the Vale of the White Horse Hunt, the tenants of Cirencester Park and townspeople of Cirencester to Lord Apsley, was painted after the wedding.
