Dear Sir

I think I understood from my daughter-in-law Mrs. J. N. Horlick[1] that you were charging £200 for the portrait of my son [5653], which we all think so good, & I have pleasure in enclosing cheque for same.

Yours very truly,

James Horlick

Editorial Note:

The sender, Sir James Horlick, 1st Baronet (1844–1921) was, with his brother William (1846–1936), co-founder of the popular malted drink, Horlicks. For biographical notes on the sender and his son, Lieutenant-Colonel Sir James Nockells Horlick, 4th Baronet, see [5653].

[1] The sender’s daughter-in-law was Flora Macdonald Martin (1888-1955). She married the sender’s son, Lieutenant-Colonel Sir James Nockells Horlick, 4th Baronet (1886-1972) [5653], in 1909. De László would later paint Flora in 1920 [5655].
