2,300GNS FOR BARRIE MS.

At the sixty-sixth annual dinner of the Newspaper Press Fund, held last night at the Mayfair Hotel, the chairman, Major J. J. Astor, M.P., announced that £27,000 had been raised at the dinner—a record figure for these occasions.

An auction of gifts held by Sir Herbert Morgan realised 3,380 guineas. The chief purchases were:

Original MS. of Sir James Barrie’s one-act play, “The Twelve Pound Look,” 2,300 guineas, bought by Mr. Gabriel Wells.

Blank canvas presented by Mr. Philip de Laszlo, with the offer to paint the purchaser or a nominee,” 1,100 guineas—the Hon. Peter Larkin, High Commissioner for Canada [6007].

An Oliver Cromwell autograph letter, presented by Mr. Gabriel Wells, 150 guineas: Sir James Barrie.

Drawing by Sir William Orpen, 200 Guineas: The Earl of Derby.

Following the sale, a gift of £10,000 from Viscount Rothermere was announced. It was also stated that the Stock Exchange Mutual Subscription Fund in connection with the Derby had increased their donation to 1,000 guineas.
