Schroeder YMCA Swim Team

  1. Meet Entries:  

  1. Summer Championship Meets:  

  1. 13&O State Meet - Entries and Meet Page Review carefully - pay attention to relay section.  Only 200 MR names are final - others will change.  Warm up assignments, live results, etc

  1. Schroeder Trophy Meet - SSTY Summer 2014 Trophy Meet and Cookout at WSAC on 8/9.  This meet is for all 14 & under non-state swimmers.

  1. SSTY 3rd Overall at 12 & U State!  In what turned out to be a close three team battle for the WI State Long Course Championship, our 12 & Unders scored more points this year than in recent years.   With third place honors, our kids finished one place higher than last year.  

        

The 10 & Unders were on fire at the meet.  Lucy Thomas broke both of her own team records in breaststroke, and Aiden Connors broke the team record in the 50 back.  The kids swam well on the relays, and the 10&U boys A & B both made the podium!  For the 10&U boys, Caden Bjornstad finished 3rd overall in the individual high point standings.

        

For the 11-12 swimmers, there were four new zone qualifiers.  Ziyad Saleem qualified in the 100 backstroke, Janiya Ransom in the 50 freestyle, Jack Gorski also in the 50 freestyle, and Paige Dressel in the 100 freestyle, 50 back, 100 back and 200 back.

There were also many team records broken, including some from the 1980’s! The 11-12 boys relay of Ziyad Saleem, Justin Liang, Adam Wenzell and Jack Gorski smashed the 200 medley relay team record from 1982 by three seconds with a time of 2:09.97.  The same four boys also broke the team record in the 400 free relay with a time of 4:18.57.  As for the girls, the 400 free relay of Kalyn Schoof, Megan Hartlieb, Paige Dressel and Sydney Stoll set a new team record with a time of 4:16.91.  The 400 medley relay team of Megan Hartlieb, Kimberly Hartlieb, Kaylyn Schoof, and Sydney Stoll broke a ten year team record by going 4:58.03.  Individually, Kaylyn Schoof set seven new team records in the 50 free (28.48), 200 free (2:11.46), 400 free (4:37.21), 50 back (31.60), 100 back (1:07.26), 200 back (2:28.46) and 400 IM (5:11.74).  Kaylyn’s 400 free and 400 IM times were under the existing state records.

Kaylyn finished second overall in in the individual high point.  On the boys’ side, Justin Liang set a new team record in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:48.83.  Justin finished 4th in individual high point.

  1. Say goodbye to a Senior! Wish a senior well this week - we all have a few weeks left with our near Frosh to Be.  Best wishes to all!

  1. 14 & U Central Zone Championships at OKC this weekend!  X Schroeder swimmers will join TEAM Wisconsin and race youth from across the midwest in Oklahoma City.  It promises to be a good meet - follow along and read more about the meet  Good Luck!

  1. Alex Meyers Named WI Swim Female Senior Swimmer of the SCY Season!

  1. USA Junior National Championships, Irvine, CA

Gwen Worlton and Alex Meyers will race at the meet in the Woollett Aquatic Center this week.  Gwen is in both Breast stroke races and Alex will race the 50 at the end of the week.

  1. Almost time for Fall Thinking!  As the summer season concludes, it is time to turn our thoughts to fall and the restart of programs.  Information will be coming out soon about maintenance practices, tryouts and fall season start as well as the 2014 - 2015 meet schedule.  The pool will not be drained but operating hours will be reduced.

  1. But Still Plenty Of Summer To Enjoy!

Tuesday, August 5th is Kids & Family Night at Chill On The Hill (Humboldt Park) in Bay View.  Come join Coaches Eric Johnson, Ann White, Amy Bennet and others who hope to create giant bubbles, beginning at 6:00 p.m.  (We’re also working on a very exciting game that we hope you’ll check out, plus face painting!)  The goal of the event is to promote our team to the community (Chill draws families from the entire MKE metro area), our upcoming fall tryouts, and have lots of fun!  Wear your Schroeder shirts/warm-ups, and when you get there, look for the SST banner.  The MAJI and Fresh Cut Collective & Friends are the two headliners; Roy G and the BIV’S is the opening band.

  1. Come and Join Us for a Night of Free Music on August 26th at the Top of the Hill of Humboldt Park.

All team members and their families are invited to a get-together at “Chill On the Hill”, put on by the Bay View Neighborhood Association.  Chill is every Tuesday evening in the summer (weather permitting), at beautiful Humboldt Park in Bay View, and the band is Paul Cebar & Tomorrow Sound.  John Stano is opening at 6:00 p.m.   We’ll meet at the top of the hill - look for the SST banner.  It’s the last performance for summer 2014, so save the date, and don’t miss the fun!  For more info email or talk to Coaches Ann White, Bob White, or Amy Bennett.

  1. T-Shirt Design Contest Now Closed.

Sixteen entries have been submitted for the design contest, and now the panel of judges have the difficult job of choosing one finalist!  At the August 9th Trophy Meet, the judges will introduce all participants who are present, and announce the top designers, including the winning t-shirt design.  If the winning designer is not at the Trophy Meet, Coach Ann White will contact the swimmer.  Our goal is to have a new, fun t-shirt available for sale to all team members at the start of the Fall Swim Session, so we’ll keep you posted.

  1. Noah’s Ark Water Park Trip on 8/11/14 - Save the date read more 40 athletes and about 70 total have already signed up!

  1. National YMCA Swimming Champs Site and Date Announced The National YMCA site will be Greensboro again and the dates are 3/31 - 4/3/15.  Time standards have been published too.  We have requested a block of 30 Dbl Dbls at the Sheraton.

Schroeder Conference Info

The conference meets will resume in the fall.  Nov. 6th is the first conference meet of the 2014 fall session, so the dual meets will once again be on Thursday nights.  Meanwhile, enjoy your summer swim session as it wraps up on August 9th with the First Annual Trophy Meet!

1. 2014 Fall Session:

Swimmers are now placed in their groups for the upcoming fall session.  Go to your account and please review your child’s fall group.  If your swimmer didn’t participate in the summer session and is planning on returning in September, please let us know in August so we can reactivate your swimmer and place them in a group.

3. Come Join Us For Some Summer Fun on August 5th:

Tuesday, August 5th is Bay View Kids & Family Night at Chill On The Hill (Humboldt Park) in Bay View.  Please come and join us as Schroeder will be part of this popular event.  See #8 above for more details.

Keep in mind it’s a perfect night to join us because there is no practice for all groups that afternoon/evening.

Wear your Schroeder clothing and show your pride in our team.  (If you don’t have a Schroeder shirt, see Coach Ann :).  Parents and kids can help make bubbles, answer questions that potential families have, and listen to music.  Food (including ice cream) is for sale at Chill.  See Coach Ann if you have any questions.

4. Another Bay View Event (Come Join Us And Get Your Grocery Shopping Done, All At The Same Time!):

Another upcoming event in BV is the South Shore Farmers’ Market the morning of August 9th.  Jacque Gorski will be at the market w/any swimmers not competing in the Trophy Meet who would like to help spread the word about our team.  We’ll have flyers about our fall tryouts, and be available to answer questions about our program.  You can let Coach Ann know if you’re able to come and help!

5. Announcing Our Schroeder South Fall Tryouts:

While we’re out and about this summer at festivals and fireworks, please spread the word to friends and neighbors about our program.  Tryouts are scheduled for the second week of September: 9/10 at 6:00 p.m. (Greendale High School), 9/12 at 6:00 p.m. (Deer Creek), and 9/13 at 10:00 a.m. (Pulaski County Pool).

        

If you would like some physical flyers to give to friends and neighbors, please see Ann White.  Ann can also email you an electronic copy as well.

6. Schroeder South Think Tank (SSTT)

Next SSTT Meeting:  Save the date and join us for the fall SSTT meeting on Monday, 9/8.  All are welcome. It’s a great way to meet other parents, give your input, and help strengthen our team.

We will again gather at the St. Francis Brewery and Restaurant located at Howard and Kinnickinnic.  Meet and Greet is at 6:00 p.m., with an opportunity to order food and drink.  The meeting will begin at 6:30.

 

7. SSTY South Office Hours:  Office Closed 8/16 - 8/24/14

Coaches Ann White and Bob White can usually be reached by phone Monday - Friday from 8:30-11:30 a.m.  The office will be closed for the week of 8/16 - 8/24/14.  Keep in mind you can also call us at the SSTY South office (414-897-8932).  Feel free to email us at:

8. Team Equipment Info:

Schroeder’s team suits are available to order from Elsmore, which you can now do online.  If you have any questions about team suits or other equipment (which goggles to buy, etc.), talk to your child’s coach.

9. SSTY South Lost and Found:

When caps, goggles, suits or fins are left at any of the pools we practice at, the coaches bring them to the Greendale Pool and put them near the team bulletin board.  Or they go into Coach Ann’s pink Speedo Bag she won at the golf outing!

10. Mail Checks to Matt Miller:

Please mail all checks to Matt Miller rather than give them to coaches at practice.  We’ve never lost a check yet, but practice can get a little hectic!  You can mail them to Matt at the following address:
