WASHING DISHES

Water is a precious resource on the PLAYA, and we strive to conserve it.

Doing the dishes like you do in the DEFAULT world is NOT going to work. It generates way too much GRAY water and poses a health hazard.

Ye Captain has PERFECTED this method over 10 years and it SCALES easily for camps of (1) to (100)

ZERO Gray Water Dishwashing

You’ll need the following parts:

Dish SCRAPER: I like this one cause it has a built in brush (but you could even just use an old hotel key card)

Dawn POWERWASH:

64oz Sprayer bottle of rinse water
Nylon brush:Amazon.com: Dawn Mini Kitchen Brush (235081) : Health & Household
Small tarp (4x4) or 55 gal trash bag cut open
Old bath towels

SPREAD out the TARP or trash bag on the ground or table top, put the towel on TOP of that

STEP 1

SCRAPE your leftover food scraps INTO YOUR own personal mesh or burlap bag.(scraps will desiccate in a day) or LICK your plate clean. It’s CRITICAL that you scrape ALL of your food OFF the plate!

STEP 2

Hold your plate / cup / utensils OVER the dishwashing station towel and lightly spray with the bottle marked “DAWN Powerwash” (it's biodegradable) let the soap do it’s thing for a MINUTE, then use the “scrubbie” or “dish brush”
OR use your fingers do the washing (you also get clean hands with this method)

STEP 3

Rinse using the spray bottle marked “WATER” over the dish towel

VOILA! clean dishes with NO gray water.

The dishwater absorbed by the towel dries in less than an hour thanks to the desert conditions of the playa……

STERAMINE is a sanitizing agent in a tablet form that you dissolve in water. It leaves no taste or residue. EACH tablet makes 1 gallon of working solution. It’s shelf stable and basically the same active ingredient found in disinfecting wipes.
