OUTCOMES

(Lesson Focus)

What will the students know or be able to do at the end of the lesson?

ASSESSMENT

How will the students demonstrate that they have accomplished

the desired outcome? Please state the question that will be

asked during your formative assessment.

STRATEGIES

In what activities will the students be engaged to accomplish the desired outcome? Please list in the

order that you will implement.

The children will learn to tell time to the hour on an analog clock.

What hour is the small hand pointing to?

  1. The teacher will ask what do we use a clock for?
  2. Distribute small analog clock.
  3. The teacher will review how to use a clock.
  4. The teacher will display an analog clock showing 4 o’clock.
  5. Have the children place a finger on the short hand of the clock and place it on the number 4.
  6. Ask: What do we use to tell time? What do we use clocks for? What hour is the small hand pointing to?
  7. Distribute Activity P 7-4.
  8. Have the children place a finger on the short hand of the clock in exercise 1. Ask: What hour is the short hand pointing to?
  9. Have the children trace the number.
  10. Help the children complete the page.

The children will learn to tell time on an analog clock.

What time is it on a digital clock?

  1.  Ask the children what do we use to tell time.
  2. Display a digital clock. Ask the children if they have seen this kind of clock.
  3. Talk about machines or equipment that have digital clocks, such as a microwave, oven or television cable box.
  4. Ask: What is the digital clock missing? (hands)
  5. Point to the two dots. Explain that the numbers to the leftof the dots tells the hour and the numbers on the right tells the minutes.
  6. Ask the children: What time is on the digital clock? How can you tell? How is the analog clock and digital clock same and different?
  7. Draw a rectangle on the board. write _______: 00 inside.
  8. Write numbers one at a time to show the different times to the hour.
  9. Have the children read each display aloud. Show each time on an analog clock too.
  10. Ask volunteers to come to the board and write the on the digital clock  drawing as I say the different time to the hour.

  2. Tell the children the clocks are showing the same time.
  3. Remind the children that when the long hand points to the number 12, we say o’clock.
  4. Explain to the children also to say o’clock when they see :00 on a digital clock.
  5. Distribute analog and digital clocks from Teaching Tools from 20 and 21.
  6. Show 9:00 o’clock on the analog clock.
  7. Model how to slide the strip through to show 1 o’clock on the digital clock.
  8. Have a child set time on an analog clock.
  9. Have the partner show the same time on a digital clock.
  10. Have the children answer the following questions: What kind of clock are you using to tell time? How can you tell? What time is it? How can you tell that is the right time?
  11. Then have them switch roles.
