Friday 6 March 2015 – Term 1 - Week 5
Value Focus for next two weeks: Quality and Respect
From The Principal
Kia ora tatou katoa, Annyong Haseyo, Talofa, Malo e lelei, Bula vi naka, Kia orana Nga mihi nui ki a koutou, Namaste, Nihao, Greetings to you all.
We are counting down the days until the School GALA on Sunday 22 March from 10 am – 2pm. We are loving all the wonderful goodies that are arriving in Room 6, so that we can sell them at the GALA on the White Elephant stall. There will be lots of fun activities to participate in, a cake stall and children performing. We look forward to seeing you all there, helping to support your School Community. Tell all your friends and family.
Our PTA (Friends of the School) ladies are beavering away to get things organised for the GALA. A big thank you to them for all their hard work. If you are interested in being on the PTA, we are holding the AGM on the 30 March at 7.30 pm in the Staffroom. Come along and be part of this group.
Our Year 6 students are busy preparing and presenting their speeches about why they would like to be voted on as a School Councillor or House Captain. I was really impressed with their presentations to their peers and teachers. The candidates showed lots of pride in their school and have clear goals about what they want to do and why. Well done everyone and we will watch this space to see who will be selected for these positions.
Just a reminder that we will be holding Three Way conferences in week 8 on Wednesday 25 and Thursday 26 March for you to discuss with your child and teacher where they are at and where to next. More information to come later.
Please note the information below regarding the road works and new footpath to the Elm Park Field. Thank you for your patience and care during this disruptive time. It will be worth it in the end. Please remember do not park over gateways or where the cones are as the yellow lines have been dug up.
Have a lovely weekend everyone,
Cheers
Trish Plowright
Principal
We were lucky to have a visit from the walking school bus last week!
Wednesday 4th March 2015
A reminder from the letter drop sent last week that this Friday and Saturday Gossamer Drive will switched back to a one-way system. Once these works are completed, the road will be opened up to two-way traffic again.
On Monday chip sealing will be completed, with minor concrete works carried out until Wednesday (11/3/15).
Once these works are completed we will disappear from site and re-establish for 3 days in early April to place asphalt. Another letter drop will be done for these works prior to starting.

Looking Ahead
BIBLE IN SCHOOLS - Our Bible in Schools Programme will commence in Term 2. This is a non-denominational curriculum which is approved by the Board of Trustees. Bible takes place for half an hour per week from 2.00 - 2.30 pm. If you do not wish your child to participate in this programme, please ensure you send a written note to the school office if you have not already done so.
DOCUMENT WALLETS / PLASTIC SLEEVES - We are selling some cute document wallets/plastic sleeves for holding all your important documents and current projects. A perfect and funky gift for students sitting NCEA or just for anyone who carries piles of paper with them. Order forms will be coming home with your eldest child today. Final order day will be 16 March. We have samples in the office if you would like to view them. They come as a mixed pack of five and you can indicate which pack you want on the order form. FOCUS ON CHILDREN
African Praise Poems
Rm 28 and 29 have been writing African Praise Poems. An African Praise Poem is a poem about your life and the events or sacrifices that have brought you to the moment you are in today. It includes language features such as metaphors, alliteration and imagery to compare yourself to an animal and natural occurrence. They were a lot easier to write than we first thought and lots of fun!
Dear School Community,
As part of our ongoing fundraising, we’re trying something a little different with a fantastic ecostore ‘Good Soap’ Fundraiser.
Selling for $2.50 each, the 80g ecostore soaps are excellent value and $1 from each soap will go to Elm Park School
If you haven’t tried ecostore soaps before, they’re beautiful to use, free of nasty chemicals and have a lovely fragrance.
You’ll be able to buy your Good Soap from the office from Monday 9 March 2015.
Fundraising activities like this make an important contribution towards Elm Park School for the benefit of our school community. We’re looking forward to a successful fundraising drive.
Thank you for your support.
