Aylesbury Novice Gala, Aqua Vale 1st April 2017

Another fabulous night of swimming this time in the Aylesbury Novice Gala which was a “No Faster Than” gala. This gala was for 12 years & under and what a performance our swimmers put in.

There were 8 swimmers competing in their first team gala, Jasmine, Maia, Jemima, Phoebe, Audrey, Lucas, Lewis & Violet and they showed no nerves at all and set some fantastic PB’s. Overall the swimmers achieved 25 individual PB’s and an amazing 43 Relay PB’s. So many swimmers achieved new PB’s that I was struggling to keep up with them, watching them achieve them made us all feel very proud of them.

There were 3 swims that were incredible, firstly Lucas Krynauw, he swam the 25m Butterfly in a time of 25.57 seconds knocking 6 seconds off his PB, secondly Edward Jackson who swam the 50m Butterfly for the first time & achieved a time of 1:00.81 and lastly Emma Layzell who like Edward swam the 50m Butterfly in a time of 53.20 which if this was a licensed gala would have been a county qualifying time!

Crusaders swimmers also achieved 13 first place & 12 second place finishes. We also had around 10 swims that were too fast.

Overall Result:

1st place - Linslade Crusaders 106

2nd place - Aylesbury & District 95

3rd place - Bourne End 91

4th place - Henley 90

Thanks to all the swimmers who yet again showed great team spirit, poolside helpers who without your help we could not enter these galas, to boys team captain William Wright for coming along and giving up an evening of Xbox to support the swimmers and to the parents for now realising that Saturday night socials are now spent at the swimming pool and not the pub!

Amersham Novice Gala 7th May 2016

Another cracking night of swimming at Amersham where Linslade Crusaders put on a great display to finish 3rd behind some tough opposition. Swimmers achieved 16 individual PB’s and 23 relay PB’s, the full report on times & PB’s is posted below.

The final result was as follows:

1st Place - Hillingdon 183 points

2nd Place - Seabirds 140 points

3rd Place - Linslade Crusaders 136 ½ points (not sure how ½ points are awarded!)

4th Place - Amersham 103 points

5th Place - Chesham 95 points

6th Place - Harrow 91 points

The last couple of galas has shown how much the swimmers are developing with so many PB’s and they are gaining confidence in the team events. What a great swim in the squadron relay at the end, won by miles.

Thank you to everyone who helped poolside, supported the team it really helps the swimmers.

Aylesbury Junior “C” Grade Novice Gala 23rd April

We took a young team to Aylesbury to compete in their novice gala against Aylesbury, Leighton Buzzard, Kiddlington & Newport Pagnall, this is always a great event and a great way to introduce swimmers to competitive team swimming.

As usual the Crusaders team performed amazingly and achieved 25 individual PB’s and 30 realy PB’s. This is an incredible amount and show how well these swimmers are developing. I think I am more nervous than the swimmers in these events as they just get on the blocks and blast off.

We achieved the following:

1st Place = 16

2nd Place = 9

3rd Place = 8

Too Fast = 8

One swim on the night that had all the poolside helpers standing there with their mouths open was Jack Rickard from our Learn to Train programme who did 27.56 seconds for the 25m Backstroke, an 11 second PB, a brilliant swim. There were so many good swims not only in times but also in the swimmer’s technique.

After 10 races it wasn’t looking so good as we had 3 too fast swims and we had to swim an overage swimmer in the 9 year old relay so received no points, but in true Crusaders spirit the fightback then begun and we came storming back.

The final scores were as follows:

1st Place - Linslade Crusaders 147 points

2nd Place - Leighton Buzzard 140 points

3rd Place - Aylesbury 113 points

4th Place - Newport Pagnall 99 points

5th Place - Kiddlington  96 points

Thank you to all the swimmers for again swimming so well, to the parents for giving up another Saturday night and to all the poolside helpers as we couldn’t enter these competitions with your help.

Times & PB’s file is posted below.

Leighton Buzzard “C” Grade Gala Saturday 6th February 2016, warm up 5:15pm

After some fantastic swimming Linslade Crusaders came 2nd behind Leighton Buzzard, overall we had 23 individual PB’s and 23 relay PB’s. I have posted the times in the spreadsheet attached to the Novice gala section.

What was very pleasing was seeing that all the additional training that we have put in place for the green & black squad swimmers is proving a success with so many not only improving their times but also their swimming technique during competitive racing.

The team was as follows:

Boys - Toby Sugars, Conor Hemming, Luca Bainbridge, Ben White, William Taylor, Sam Humphrey, Ethan Lawrence, Ashton Neo, Anthony Hooper, Hayden Gell, William March, Max Pickering.

Girls - Gwen Firoozmand, Grace Barlow, Millie Hughes, Halle Bainbridge, Isabel Jackson, Ella Evans, Emily Michaels, Thia Goodship, Caitlyn Janes, Catherine Banham, Ellie Firoozmand, Isabelle Hoare, Charlotte Baxter, Isobelle Pickering, Keziah Gordon & Abigail Lawrence (Team Captain).

Well done to all swimmers, we have some more Novice galas throughout the year and I am sure that we can get even more PB’s infuture.

Rugby Novice Gala 21st November 2015

Linslade Crusaders took a young team up to Rugby for their annual novice gala and what a night it turned out to be. The team consisted of 15 green squad & 7 black squad swimmers with many swimming a team gala for the first time. There were nerves at the start but once the gala started all that could be seen was beaming smiles and enjoyment.

Overall we achieved 30 individual PB’s and 20 relay PB’s which was an incredible achievement, I really believe that since we increased the swim time for the green squad and moved them to Bletchley this was a major factor in the fantastic improvements in these swimmers, swim week also played a massive part in this.

We gained seven 1st place finishes, nine 2nd place finishes & eight 3rd place finishes. We also had 1 DQ in a relay event and 2 speeding tickets where the swimmers swam faster than the no faster than time. These were 2 brilliant swims, Catherine Banham recording 18.85 for the 25m Fly and Tomos Clarke recording 17.00 for the 25m Freestyle. The biggest decrease in PB was by Ella Evans who knocked 8.46 of her 25m Breaststroke time with another 7 swimmers knocking over 4 seconds off their PB’s.

With so many great swims you would have thought that this would be the highlight for me but these were beaten by the team spirit and behaviour of the team, to see all the team standing at the side of the pool singing the names of the swimmer who was racing was just brilliant, they showed what team spirit was all about.

We are always behind in the gala, at the first check-point we were in 5th place but gradually we clawed our way back and in an exciting finish and a brilliant Canon relay we finished in 2nd place by just 1 point, I think at this point the jaws of all the coaches hit the floor.

Final positions:

1st Place Stratford Sharks > 267

2nd Place Linslade Crusaders > 266

3rd Place Rugby A > 263

4th Place Kingsbury > 245

5th Place City of Coventry > 224

6th Place Redditch > 220

7th Place Leicester Sharks > 208

8th Place Rugby B > 152

A huge thankyou to all the poolside helpers & parents & swimmers and  hope that everyone enjoyed the event as much as I did. GO CRUSADERS.
