Sketch, 4 December 1924
There was, in fact, a lot of party-giving in London during the last week—small gatherings sometimes, but often fairly large affairs, such as that given by Lady Ludlow the other afternoon at Bath House. First there was tea in the beautiful tapestried dining-room, where Laszlo’s portrait of the hostess hangs conspicuously [6780], and after that everyone wandered into the vieux-rose room, which has the big bow-fronted windows overlooking Piccadilly, and there the wonderful Suggia played for nearly an hour. She is a simply magnificent artist, and always looks so decorative when she is playing—no wonder she inspired John to one of his most remarkable portraits.
