Real Jerusalem part 5 - Why did Jerome use the word Bosphorus ?

Jerome, author of translation of the Bible into Latin (the Vulgate) used the word Bosphorus in Obadiah 1:20.

Et transmigratio exercitus hujus Filiorum Izraelu

omnia loca Chananæorum usque ad Sareptam:

et transmigratio Jerozolima, quæ in Bosphoro est,

possidebit civitates Austri.

The same word appears in one English translation as well ( Douay–Rheims), from 1610.

And the captivity of this host of the children of Israel, all the places of the Chanaanites even to Sarepta: and the captivity of Jerusalem that is in Bosphorus, shall possess the cities of the south.

The term ‘Bosphorus’ had no reason to appear in the Bible, because it is simply not the place where the events from the Old Testament officially took place.

But it does appear. Why ?

As you can see from the above, it is said that Jerome had a different opinion than his Hebrew tutor, because he claimed that Sepharad is a metaphor.

Jerome used the word Bosphorus anyway and made a huge problem to the future Masoretes and the whole judaism.

Let’s see where Sepharad is and what secrets it has to tell.

I would like to recall this fragment:

Let’s see where Sardis is located.

Two more interesting translations:

Their land goes from Mesha toward Sephar as far as the mountain ranges in the east.

Mountain ranges. And what can we see on the last picture ?

When you don’t know where the real ancient Jerusalem was, you can speculate. If you have the knowledge then everything becomes clear and legible: the exiles of Jerusalem were not rushed more than 1500 km from Palestine, but from Jerusalem on the Bosphorus to the nearby Sepharad (Sardes, Sart) also know from Revelations. Sardes is one of the...7 churches of Revelation.

Jerome perfectly knew where the events from the Old Testament took place, that is why he used the word Bosphorus.

In the end, let’s look at Septuagint.

Obadiah 1:20

and the captives of Jerusalem shall inherit as far as Ephratha; they shall inherit the cities of the south.

Other translations use the term ‘who are in’, like here:

Obadiah 1:20 (KJ21)

and the captives of Jerusalem who are in Sepharad shall possess (inherit) the cities of the south.

As you can see, in Septuagint the mention of Bosphorus/Sepharad was removed. Because these were too problematic. The whole core of the sentence giving the information on where those exiles were taken to, was removed.

They were in Sepharad, near the Bosphorus. That is where the events described in Obadiah 1:20 took place :)
