Course Objectives:
The goal of Drafting is to introduce students to the tools and techniques used to create mechanical drawings for use in theatre. These drawings are used by almost everyone that works backstage: designers must be able to create them to communicate their ideas to the crews, and technicians must be able to read and understand them to complete the work that makes the production come alive. Students will learn the rules and standards for creating such drawings, then put them into practice using both traditional hand drafting tools and Vectorworks.
Course Topics:
This class will be broken down into two parts:
Grading Breakdown:
This includes satisfactory completion of the projects assigned over the course of the class, including a comprehensive final project.
This includes in class exercises as well as being focused and engaged during class lectures, demonstrations,
and hands-on time.
Academic Dishonesty:
In the context of this class, “academic dishonesty” (i.e. plagiarism) is defined as having another person complete the majority of the work on a project you turn in as your own; receiving assistance of any kind from anyone else on a quiz or exam; and any other misrepresentation of others’ work as your own. The first instance of dishonesty will result in a zero on the assignment; a second will result in failing the course.
