Enduring Understandings: Students will understand how to use the elements of design and principles to create a 12 x 18 inch drawing. Students will implement the use Charcoal and/or Graphite. Quality drawing techniques using a variety of lines and shading will be used to create the final piece. The final design will be graded on the use of composition, emphasis, overlapping, leading lines, detail observation of the surfaces of the objects and midtones, highlights and shadows.
Essential Questions:
How do we create contrast in a drawing?
Why would an artist choose to use charcoal or graphite?
How do we create interesting compositions using the subject of nature and keep the viewers interest?
How do you incorporate the 5th line into a composition?
*Write a thoughtful artist statement describing the design and how you created a dynamic drawing using the rules of composition and the elements and principles of art.
