From Aylesbury

The observatory is approximately 5 miles from the centre of Aylesbury.

Leave Aylesbury on the A41 (Bicester road) and head for Waddesdon. Just before Waddesdon there is a major road junction where there a turnings right to Quainton and left to Upper Winchendon, take a left turn (distinguished by the grand looking estate house complete with gold leaf railing on the corner of this junction). Follow the road up Waddesdon Hill for about 1 mile into Upper Winchendon where a 30 MPH limit applies. Go through the village, staying on the main road, noting as you exit the Observatory dome on your left horizon. The road dips down initially before rising again at  “Hidden Summit” road sign. Start to slow down as you pass the summit and indicate left. The entrance to the observatory is on your left in the dip in the road, go through the gate to the top of the hill. Go to the right of the Observatory and circle left around the back of it so that you end up facing back down the hill.

Note:- If the gate is not open or blocked for any reason do not stop in the road. Go past the entrance, turn around further down the road, and try again.
