One of my earliest memories was my mother. She had short hair, wearing a cooling, colored shirt wherever she went, at home or outside. On her face was a pair of pink glasses and a few, small pits. Even without makeup, she was still beautiful in my eyes.

I used to play on the playground just outside my house with my friends. There were monkey bars, a horse on a spring and a small red see-saw that neither of us knew how to use. Sometimes, we would even run around the carpark for fun, chase each other around. Back then, I lived in the Philippines as my father had a work shift and I never had the slightest impression of what my real homeland looked like. Even out of all my friends, be it school or neighbour, I was the only Singaporean.

I used to live in a rented house which was divided into two. I used to live on the upper half with my family. Luckily, our’s was the bigger half. We had two floors and the roof while the other has one floor and a basement. Outside the house, one could smell freshly cut grass all over. The grass was growing very quickly and often cut.

These were the earliest things I could remember from my childhood.

The endless path of the park lay before Adan. He was out alone for a breather, in the breezy night. For some reason, Adam could not sleep, and this was the only thing to do without disturbing his parents at night. The smell of the flora surrounded Adam, which evoked a sense of being alone. Adam strolled along the path, the sound of crickets chirping. “This was all just to make use of the time he had,” Adam thought to himself. Nothing would go wrong for a relaxing walk in the park, could it?

As Adam was walking through the park, he heard the sound of some slithery thing treading on the ground. He turned back to see not a single creature in sight. Nothing to be scared about. Then he heard a slow, deep croak, from where he did not know. Something odd was going on. A bead of sweat dripped from his forehead.  He saw two, bright shining eyes in the distance behind him.

The eyes shone brighter and grew bigger. They were coming towards Adam! A repeated, metallic buzzing got louder and louder as the eyes neared him. Adam’s heart started to pound faster and he was sweating. He ran as fast as his legs could take him. Just below the eyes, light shined off in all directions, like brandishing bright metal teeth.

When I was a child, I well remember the time where I was reprimanded for being mischevious. I tried to mix up my mother's things as a joke. My mom was talking to some of her friends in the living room. I saw this as a chance to do something funny. Seeing that I went to my mother's room, My mom went after me. "Go to your room! Don't touch the things on my dressing table!" She dragged me to my room, closing the room door behind her. I waited in my room grumpily, sitting on the spotted blanket on my bed. If they were having fun, why can't I have a good time too? Sitting on my bed, I thought of the dreaded time before she would ask me to come out. I felt a bit tired from all this. I lay down on the bed in an unwilling doze.
