Flotillas are a peoples’ direct action effort to #BreakTheSiege, bring aid to the shorts of Gaza,  and open a humanitarian corridor. The Global Sumud Flotilla was made up of more than fifty ships, crewed by regular people from dozens of countries. The last GSF ship was intercepted and its crew abducted. Now, more ships are sailing. New testimony and video is underscoring the danger Flotilla members are in while held in Israeli captivity. We must get them home for their safety and to rejoin the fight—because the violence being inflicted upon them pales in comparison to that being inflicted upon Palestinians over the past two years and decades before.

RIGHT NOW IN GAZA: Israel is intensifying their genocidal assault and forced-starvation on the Palestinian people despite Hamas agreeing to Trump’s so-called “peace plan.” Along with Gaza, Israeli terrorism and annexation is escalating in the West Bank, making clear their intention to complete their ethnic cleansing projects and expand the borders of their settler-colonial state with the backing of U.S. and western imperialism.

WHY THIS MATTERS (click arrow to left to drop down)

  • Despite overwhelming evidence of Israeli war crimes, crimes of occupation, apartheid, ethnic cleansing, forced starvation and genocide in Gaza and the West Bank, most state governments have failed to do anything to intervene. With the exception of South Africa and members of the Hague Group, Israel’s total blockade and policy of forced starvation is unchallenged and even enthusiastically supported by Israel’s allies the world over. With nations refusing to act, it is up to the global majority to do what is necessary.
  • The tides are turning. Despite Israeli threats and tactics of intimidation and psychological warfare against members of the Flotilla, torture and abuse of those currently held in captivity,  the ships continue to sail and will not be deterred. The steadfastness of Flotilla members in the face of Israeli violence is a reflection of the Palestinian people in their decades-long struggle against settler-colonial forces.
  • Finally—despite the essential role the United States is playing in the ongoing genocide of Palestinians in Gaza and at home, our nation has a duty to protect its citizens from political violence by a foreign government. Our elected representatives and the U.S. State Department must take meaningful action to keep Americans aboard the Flotilla safe.  

URGENT ACTIONS TO TAKE RIGHT NOW

 #1 — CALL ON ELECTED REPRESENTATIVES

  • Find contact information for your elected representatives—Send letters. Email and call. Leave a message. Keep trying until you can speak with someone.
  • Interception is ACTIVELY ONGOING, but the ships continue to sail!
    SIMPLE SCRIPT:     I am contacting <ELECTED OFFICIAL> with several urgent demands to stop the ongoing U.S.-Israeli genocide in Palestine and protect U.S. Americans courageously sailing to deliver humanitarian aid to Palestinian families in Gaza. Right after releasing the U.S. Americans of the Global Sumud Flotilla from illegal and violent imprisonment, Israel attacked the Freedom Flotilla in international waters and took several more U.S. Americans hostage. Total impunity has allowed Israel to get away with some of the worst atrocities in human history, including forced starvation of families and children, who continue to be killed at an alarming rate despite Hamas agreeing to Trump’s so-called “peace plan.”! It’s past time <ELECTED OFFICIAL> speak up and take action to protect Palestinians and those who sail to their aid. If you were doing the right thing, these Americans would not need to risk their lives to intervene. We deserve justice. If these demands are not met, I am prepared to use my rights as a U.S. citizen—including freedom of speech and right to protest—to escalate on behalf of the people of Palestine and those aboard.

These are my demands:

  • Call on Israel to stop attacking and abducting U.S. Americans in international waters in violation of international law!
  • Call on Israel to immediately end their illegal naval blockade and stop the bombing and massacres and forced starvation of Palestinians and allow the unrestricted flow of humanitarian aid to enter Gaza in alignment with Trump’s so-called “peace plan”
  • Call for an end to the annexation of the West Bank
  • Sign on to Senators’ letter to Secretary of State Marco Rubio calling for protection of the Flotilla and an end to the blockade (Markey, Merkley, Van Hollen, Warren)
  • Sign on to Rashida Tlaib’s letter demanding protection for the Flotilla
  • Do everything in your power to secure the safe return of all U.S. Americans held in Israeli captivity, and call for the protection of those aboard the new Flotillas.
  • Advocate for U.S. American and child-prisoner of Israel, MOHAMMED IBRAHIM. Demand his immediate release and return to his family in Florida! (more below)
  • Declare your public support:
  • Joint Resolutions of Disapproval by Bernie Sanders to block the transfer of offensive weapons to Israel
  • Support or sponsor the Block the Bombs legislation to stop sending weapons being used for genocide

  • Remind the Department of State that they have a sworn duty to protect U.S. citizens abroad from the political violence of a foreign government, and that includes Israel.
  • Ask directly: “Will you demand Israel release all U.S. American veterans and civilians from detention and bring them home?”

  • Israel is accelerating their final solution through a campaign of total annihilation.
  • U.S. Americans have been taken hostage by the Israeli military. Remember why the global citizens aboard the Flotilla were sailing — to break the siege and open a humanitarian corridor for the people in Gaza, who are being forced from their homelands, massacred, and starved by Israel.
  • Share images and videos, and amplify Palestinian stories from Palestine. 
  • Discuss what is happening with the people in your life and invite them to take action with you. Stay away from arguments or rhetoric. Occupation and genocide should never happen, full stop. It’s up to us to stop it.
