1920s Newspaper
Your task: Create a newspaper using Google Docs about the unit consisting of articles, comic strips, advertisements and editorials.
Instructions:
I. Give your paper a title that fits with the unit. “History Newspaper” is not enough!

II. Your newspaper should include 8 or more items including:
- 3 or more news articles about events from the unit. These should be written from the point of view of a reporter who witnessed these events and was “in the middle of the action.” These articles should include made-up quotes from people involved in the event. **And each article should be a minimum of 5-7 sentences in length.
Possible Topics:
- Increase in Stock Market Values
- Impact of Prohibition/Organized Crime
- Increased Feminism/19th Amendment
- Mass consumerism
- Impact of Henry Ford’s Model T
- Impact of Jazz music/Harlem Renaissance
- Effects of Increased Fundamentalism
- Impact of the First Red Scare
- 1 or more editorials (opinion pieces written by either the editor or a concerned citizen) about events at the time (something other than what you chose to use in #1). In an editorial the newspaper editors discuss an event and give their opinions on what happened and what they might have personally done about it. Minimum 5-7 sentences.
- 1 obituary of a famous person from this period. An obituary is a short retelling of the major events in that person’s life. Minimum 5-7 sentences.
- 1 hand drawn picture that goes along with one of your front page stories.
- 2 or more “other” items such as:
- Comic strips about either a person or event from the time period. Each strip should be at least 3 panels in length.
- Advertisement from a company that might have existed at the time.
- Sports report about a sport played or a popular athlete in this period.
- Business/Stock Report
- Entertainment News
III. Rough Draft – Your group MUST do some pre-planning and decide exactly what you are going to do on your front page. You then MUST draw a rough layout of what will be included on your page on a sheet of notebook paper. You must show this to your teacher before you begin creating the finished product.
