I am sorry not to have sent the enclosed sooner. I rather put off writing from day to day in order to become a little more

familiar with this portrait. It pleases me very much really, and it is a great joy to have it – and so I feel most thankful.

I do not feel it is quite so absolutely like Sidney [5598] as the

wonderful sketch you have done of my other son [5596] is like him – and I have wondered if you would come here someday to see it when Sidney is here?

I hear Lady Lowther[1] is so delighted with

the portrait you have done of Sir Gerard [13370]. I hope so much to see it. It must be a great comfort to her to possess it.
