Message for Modern Life:   “Merit and Grace”

The hiring practices Jesus describes in this parable, while in many modern cities have been replaced with “Temp” agencies, is still common in many parts of the world. Even in the US this can be a common practice in the Southwest among migrant workers. No matter our position in life, we have a general sense of our “value” and what is fair. Most of us would agree, you work harder and longer than others, you deserve more! But here’s the rub. Jesus says through this parable: “Our ways are not God’s ways”.

Questions:

  • What defines us in our society? What defines us in our church?
  • In the church is there a difference between new members and old members?
  • Are we Christians because we love Jesus and are grateful to be called into his service or are we Christians to ensure our place in heaven?

Announcements for the week of September 24, 2017:

The search committee, consisting of Amy Fawks, Patti Miller, Donna Bankert, Ken Wenger, Matt Boyer, Merle Whisler, Gary Rickrode, Beverly Speight-Mohamed, Linda Bixler, Liz Hossler and Dan Trimmer, has met and reviewed the first round of five pastoral candidate profiles.  At this time, after prayerfully considering the candidates, we feel that we have not found a candidate who is a "match" for Grace.  We are still awaiting more candidate profiles from Penn Central Conference and will update you as we continue our search.

Please be advised that the Grace Nursery is once again up and running with a safe, fun environment for our little ones during our Traditional Worship Service.  Please stop in and see what this wonderful program is all about.  For more info or to offer assistance, please check with Nancy Kuhn.

The CROP Hunger Walk and CWS

CROP Hunger Walks are community-wide events sponsored by Church World Service and organized by local congregations or groups to raise funds to end hunger at home and around the world.

For nearly half a century, CROP Hunger Walks have ensured that more people worldwide have access to nutritious, sustainable food sources.  From combating droughts to providing agricultural training to stocking shelves in hundreds of food pantries, CROP Hunger Walks held end hunger by raising funds to support local food programs and the international anti-hunger work of Church World Service.
