Now Shreya has turned 8 years old her parents said they would be giving her $4.50 each week as pocket money because she did her chores so independently. She was very excited. She wants to save her money to buy a doll that costs $54.00.

Questions:

1. How much money would she have after 5 weeks?

2. How much money would she have after 10 weeks?

Extra challenge:

3. How m

any weeks’ pocket money would she need to save to pay for the special doll she wants. The doll costs $54.00.

This is how I worked out how much Shreya would have after 5 weeks:

$4.50+$4.50=$9.00

$4.50+$4.50=$9.00

$9.00+$9.00=$18.00

$18.00+$4.50=$22.50

After 10 weeks Shreya would have:

$45.00

This is how I worked it out:

$22.50+$22.50=$45.00

Extra challenge:

How many weeks’ pocket money would she need to save to pay for the special doll she wants. The doll costs $54.00.

This is how I worked it out:

In 10 weeks she had $45.00. In 12 weeks she has $54.00. I did 10 weeks which is $54.00 + 2 weeks which is $9.00 so this = $54.00.

I learned how to use a grid when problem solving
