Updates and Reminders for the week ending 8.23.24

This Week We…

Math: Students began to measure objects using centimeters and meters.


ELA:
We started our new unit in Wit and Wisdom, Changes!  Students began reading the text “How do you Know it’s Fall?” and began to discuss what they noticed and wondered about the text.

Phonics:  Students reviewed digraphs /sh/, /ch/, /th/, and /wh/.  We practiced blending words with digraphs and blends.

Science/ Social Studies: Not Yet

Social Emotional Learning (SEL): We talked about what it feels like to belong. We began to discuss and value our classmates’ similarities and differences. This discussion supported our school’s Statement of Inclusivity that you can read on our school website.

Next Week We Will…

Math: We will continue to measure objects using centimeters and meters.  Students will relate 1cm, 10cm, and 100 cm, as well as


ELA:
We will continue the text “How do you Know it’s Fall?”  We will begin to discuss nonfiction text features glossary and Table of Contents. Students will determine the main idea of a text, as well as supporting details.

Phonics:  Students will differentiate when to use /c/, /k/, and /ck/.  We will also discuss our first syllable type: closed syllables.

Science/ Social Studies: Not Yet

Social Emotional Learning (SEL): This week we will talk about accepting differences. We will discuss similarities and differences within our classroom communities and read the book Families, Families, Families. These conversations are supported by our school Statement of Inclusivity.

Shoutout to all of our 2nd graders for logging into their computers on their own, and completing the BOY assessments in Aimsweb!

We Need Your Help

  • Make sure your child is at school ontime, walking in by 7:57 each morning!
  • It is important that your child come each day with a full water bottle, and a snack!
  • Next week students will be using computers and will need headphones labeled with name.

Announcements and Reminders

As a grade level, 2nd grade will not be sending homework, with the only expectation being 20 minutes of nightly reading. (Teachers will reach out individually if we feel your Kingfisher could benefit from additional practice in something!)
