Please reference this guide when developing your story ideas to help ensure alignment and increase the likelihood of coverage.

I cover:

Coverage Areas:

1. Daily Roundup
A quick snapshot of recent creative work—typically campaigns released that day or within the past few days. These are featured in fast, digestible formats.

Examples:

2. Campaigns and Commercials

We highlight newly launched campaigns across formats—films, OOH, social, experiential, PSAs, etc. Most often these are included in the Creativity Roundup, but particularly standout pieces—those that are beautifully crafted, emotionally powerful, or represent a significant platform for a brand—may receive standalone features at the discretion of myself and Tim.

Examples:

3. Creative Strategy & Production

These are in-depth stories that explore the thinking and execution behind the work. These pieces require interviews with both client and agency, and must have a strong narrative angle. We also highlight notable production techniques, challenges, or innovations (e.g., use of generative AI, robotics, sensitive subject handling, or last-minute pivots).

4. Top 5 Music

This is a recurring vertical I oversee that spotlights the most compelling uses of music in advertising. These are campaigns where music is central to the creative idea.

Examples:

5. Brand Marketing

Creative and brand marketing often go hand in hand. I occasionally cover brand marketing stories tied to key cultural or seasonal moments such as April Fools’ Day, Mother’s Day, Black History Month, etc.

Examples:

Pitching Guidelines:

To streamline the process and improve the likelihood of coverage, please include the following with your pitch:

  • The Work Itself: This may seem obvious, but please include the actual campaign. Even a well-written pitch or press release is not enough without the creative. Share assets via a downloadable file or an unlisted YouTube/Vimeo link (make sure permissions are active and non-expiring). Final files are preferred for quicker turnaround, but previews under embargo are acceptable as long as finals follow promptly.
  • Complete Credits: Include all relevant contributors—creative agency (or note if it was in-house), production company, director, client, and any others involved.
  • Campaign Title: Please provide the name of the campaign or video, along with any relevant brand platform name.
  • SRT Files: To ensure accessibility, Ad Age requires SRT captioning files for video content.
  • Still Imagery: Include all related visuals, such as social or OOH imagery, along with appropriate photo credits. If there's a third-party photographer or contributor, please indicate that clearly.
