Bridges to Advanced Algebra Syllabus

Cleveland High School

Ian Maurer

2017-2018

Objectives:

Expectations:

Consequences will apply if classroom expectations are not met.

Cell Phones:

Cell phones and other electronic devices are not allowed UNLESS given explicit permission for a specific activity. The research is definitive: using electronics in class lowers student achievement. We have a limited amount of time together, so I cannot permit any distraction that will detract from learning.

There are some cases where students may need to check their phones during classes due to family illness or other circumstances. It is the student’s responsibility to communicate with me BEFORE using their phone during class.

Absences:        Students are responsible for missed lessons, work and assessments when they are absent. Students should check my website, with a classmate, or with me to find out what was missed.

Attending class on time, every time, is the key to success.

Tardies: Do not be late. Arrive before the bell rings. The bell is when class starts. You should have all materials out and ready to begin when the bell rings.

Grading:

Tests:                 75%                (work samples are included as tests)

Quizzes:                    25%                (quizzes are open notes)

Although classwork and homework will be assigned daily, I do not assess daily work for a grade. Some students need time to practice new material, which is the purpose of classwork and homework. However, many of the questions on tests and quizzes will be eerily similar to homework problems, so it is definitely in your best interest to complete the assignments.

Tests and quizzes may be retaken to improve your grade. Schedule a time during flex or outside of school to retake tests and quizzes.

If you miss class, are late, or do not complete class work, you will not be allowed retakes on that test/quiz. However, you can earn back the privilege by completing extra work.

There is no extra credit.

A: 90-100%.  B: 80-89%.  C: 70-79%.  D: 60-69%.  F: 0-59%.
