This intimate drawing was made by de László only two years after he married Lucy Guinness. It was done at Semmering, a village in the Styrian Alps, south west of Vienna. At the time, the couple was still based in their house in Budapest, but the following year they moved to Vienna which was more central for the increasing demands of the artist’s portrait painting practice.
