Governor Abbott included $15 million for Teach For America in his proposed budget. The House proposed $10.5 million and the Senate proposed $12 million. With the many education funding priorities, we were grateful for Governor Abbott’s support and the bipartisan support of the legislature that paved the way for the $12 million in the final budget.

Subject: Inquiry for an Abbott-O-Meter update
Folks:
I write on behalf of the PolitiFact Texas Abbott-O-Meter because we’re trying to gauge progress on Gov. Greg Abbott’s promise to expand Teach for America in Texas, as noted here.
Has this happened? If so, what role did the governor play in its expansion? If not, why not?
Thanks.
