This is a preparatory drawing for the portrait of Jewell Allcroft [2217]. Both the finished picture and a preparatory oil are in the collection of a descendant of the sitter.

The drawing is inscribed 27, identifying the page number of the sketchbook in which is was made. The sketchbook is number 34 in the Studio Inventory.
