THIS WEEK in CHIEFS RUGBY

WELCOME TO OUR CHIEFS RUGBY CLUB FAMILY!

The Chiefs Rugby Club was originally the Waubonsie Valley Rugby Football Club, founded at Waubonsie Valley High School in 2007.

Over the years as the team grew, we started taking in players from Metea Valley High School, Oswego High School and Oswego East High School.  Then in 2012, we added a Middle School team.

In 2014 as we grew further, we rebranded to become the Chiefs Rugby Club, with all teams playing under one name.  We now boast High School Boys, High School Girls, Middle School and Elementary Rookie Rugby (non contact) teams.

We pride ourselves in delivering a quality rugby program while fostering the World Rugby values of Integrity, Discipline, Respect, Passion and Solidarity with the added All Blacks guide to being successful on and off the pitch.

Rugby is a game that welcomes athletes of all shapes and sizes.  It is a game that is a mixture of strength, speed, agility and mental strength.  Rugby is often referred to as the ‘thinkers game’.  As a game that changes constantly throughout the time on the pitch, players must be ready to switch from offence to defence and back again in a split second.  Rugby relies heavily on team players.  In the game of rugby, there are no names on the back of jerseys, just the positional numbers.  The thought being that the team is many parts of one whole unit, and without every part doing its equal share, they will not succeed.  There is no ‘superstar’ position, every position has a vital role to play.

Rugby had its origins in soccer, and is also the forefather of American football, so there are traditional skills of ball handling, running and kicking the ball, as well as tackling (in the full contact version of the game) that players are familiar with.

Rugby is an affordable sport.  The only equipment needed is a mouthguard and a pair of cleats (soccer, football or rugby cleats will do).  We will provide the game jersey and shorts.  Our club is also a registered 501(c)3 charity, so we will never turn a player away because of financial reason.  We offer full and partial scholarships every year.

Being one of the biggest truly global sports, rugby is a very social game where lasting friendships that span the world can be made.  Anywhere you travel where there is a rugby club, you are family.  We are reminded of this after every game where the home team will host a meal for the opposition to sit down and eat with them.  The premise is that rugby is a respectful game, and although for the duration of the game, teams will compete to their highest ability, when the final whistle goes, we are again family.  We may be playing against our future boss, against our future brother in law or be refereed by our future mother in law, so understand the need to remember the camaraderie of the sport.

Rugby is a game for life.  Throughout the world, players start with a rugby ball in their hand at the age of 5 and most play well into adulthood.  Rugby is a game you play beyond the last day of high school.  In fact, your rugby playing career has only just begun at that point.  Many players once their playing days are over, return as coaches or referees to give back to this wonderful sport.

We would like to give you a very warm welcome to our Chiefs family.  If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to call or email us.
