Part 2: Explanations

Provide a short explanation (no more than a paragraph) for each scenario on how the tweets reflect the values ascribed to each leadership style.

Pair #1: The first scenario is a possible situation that I could face at my school. It has to do with the addition of a new program to a school. I wanted to compare the extremes of the leadership roles. I don’t think that someone with an Opportunistic logic set can become an Alchemist without intervention early in their professional career. The Opportunistic tweet follows along the focus on personal wins, and treating other people as objects or as competitors. The Alchemist tweet focuses on the capacity to deal simultaneously with other situations, the calmness they have over situations.

Pair #2: The second scenario is an idea that I’ve had for my school. It requires teachers to increase their digital presence. I compare how different these two extremes are in order to assess the likelihood of an individual going from Diplomat to Strategist. My opinion is that it would take multiple classes and years of experience to make a transitions of this magnitude. The Diplomat tweet follows along the concept that a Diplomat seeks to please higher-status colleagues while avoiding conflict. The Strategist tweet follows along the concept that Strategist want to create a shared visions across different action logics, a visions that encourage both personal and organizational transformations.

Pair #3: The third scenario is something that is currently happening at my school. It deals with the implementation of MI online learning and section 21f. The Expert and Individual Logics I partly see them as a soft image of each other, as one focuses on establishing what they know and that they know it, the other focuses on sharing what they know and what other people know. The Expert tweet was very authoritative, full of expectations, and dismissive. The Individual tweet dealt with the ability to communicate well with people who have other action logics and creativity.

Pair #4: The fourth scenario is something I would like to push for in my school. It requires teachers to be more involved with online technologies. I paired these two because I believe that this is the classic dilemma manager vs. leader. I also believe that a jump can be made from Achiever to Alchemist with the proper classes and training. The Achiever tweet was about establishing a positive work environment and a focus on what can be accomplished, it also opened the door to differences in interpretation and ways of relating. The Alchemist tweet was about patience, charisma, and moral standards.

Pair #5: The fifth scenario is an attempt at controversy in order to evaluate better what each logic would do. In this final pairing I wanted to see evaluate the growth that I would have to make in order to become a strategist, and I do believe I’m in the right track to logic modification because of my current education and work experiences. The Individual tweet was based on braking the rules and thinking outside of the box. The Strategist tweet was based on close leadership attention and being an effective change agent.
