Menton
[4?]. Feb. 1921.
My dearest Pauli.
We are on the way home from a lovely excursion into the mountains –Miſs Hodge[1] joined us, & she & I had a good strong mule! We are [halting?] on the return journey, & Dads[2] is making a picture of the lovely blue sea below & mountains round[3] – We see real orange trees here & lemon trees, [regular?] groves of lemon trees, heavy with lemons! How all my dear boys would love the place!
So far we’ve been here 4 days = We shall be leaving on the 16th for Paris & expect to reach London about 21st/ I am writing on my knee, so my writing is v. wobbly!
[Page 2]
We were del= to get your’s & Stef’s[4] nice letters/ yes, Johnny[5] will be lonely, especially as all [carpets?] have been taken away at P.Gate[6]/ But Aunt Amy & little Lu[7] were there for some days after we left/ Then later Aunt Eve & G.[8] are coming there for a few days/ Dad’s picture is getting on nicely! Marjorie Hodge is sitting near me, & is drawing Daddy!
I am so glad to hear you will be in the 4tte, but I wonder Stef was not invited?
What did yr. master say to the Beet–hoven Sonata? Has Stef played it with you yet? I’ve just asked Dads if he sends his love to you – reply –, “Why do you ask me? You can imagine dear Pauly, give him my love”
[On the side of page 1]
Big hugs to you & Stef.
