Strength and Conditioning
Course Competencies: The following course competencies must be mastered before credit for the course is awarded. Mastery is demonstrated by passing grades in each competency.
B Kinesthetic (100%): Demonstrate preparedness and effort needed to participate in
various strength and conditioning exercises on a daily basis
M Self-Management (1-7): students will demonstrate respect and responsibility while managing personal time, conduct, and planning.
L Collaboration (1-7): students will work effectively with others and strengthen group performance by sharing ideas and workloads.
Course Description
This course is designed for students in grade 10, 11, and 12. This strength and conditioning course is designed to improve overall body strength and conditioning through weightlifting, cardiovascular training, and plyometric training. The aim of this course is to increase muscular strength, improve cardiovascular efficiency, enhance flexibility, improve balance and coordination, and increase speed. Students are required to be self-motivating to train hard every class period and will be required to maintain a daily log, which charts their progress through the course. Each student will design (with the help of the teacher) their own personal fitness and weight training program to fit their personal needs. This class will last one semester.
