Dear 7th Grade Parent(s) / Guardian(s),

We are excited to announce an upcoming field trip for our 7th grade students to the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo. This outing promises to be both fun and educational, providing our students with a unique opportunity outside of the classroom.

Our visit to the zoo will offer your child a chance to observe a wide variety of animal species up close.  This experience aligns with our science curriculum and provides a learning opportunity that we believe will significantly benefit our students.

• Departure Time: 9:30 AM
• Return Time: 1:30 PM

Field Trip Highlights:

• Students will be divided into small groups with a Shore staff member to complete various activities planned out by our 7th grade science department.
• In addition to the group work, students will have the opportunity to have fun!
• Students will be placed into groups with a Shore staff member overseeing them for the day.
• A pavilion has been reserved for lunch.
• This trip is for the entire 7th grade class.  If your child does not want to attend, please notify me at dwyer@mentorschools.org or call the main office.  We recommend students not attending the field trip stay home for the day. Their absence will be excused with proper notification to the attendance office.

What to Bring:

• Students should dress for the weather, rain or shine, and wear comfortable shoes for walking.  We will be walking a lot!
• A reusable water bottle is optional and recommended.
• Optional spending money for the gift shop.
• Students must bring a packed lunch.  Due to long lines, the purchasing of food by students will not be permitted.
• We recommend using a disposable bag, but are not requiring it.  Students that bring a reusable lunch container will be required to carry it with them after lunch.

Cost:

• The cost of the field trip is $20 per student. This fee includes transportation and admission to the zoo.
• We understand that this might be a financial burden for some families, so if you need financial assistance, please contact me at dwyer@mentorschools.org and we will work with you to ensure your child can attend.

What To Do Next:

• We will be utilizing the school store in the parent portal to sign up for this trip.
• In the school store you will be able to sign the permission slip electronically, and make the payment.
• In addition to the permission slip and payment, your child’s annual update must be completed for the 24-25 school year.  This can be completed in the parent portal as well.
• The due date to sign up for this trip is Friday, September 27 by 1:00 PM.  The following items need to be completed by 1:00 PM to be considered signed up.

• Permission Slip Signed
• $20 fee paid.
• Completed 24-25 Annual Update

Chaperones:

• Over 20 Shore staff members will be attending the trip with your child.  At this time, parent chaperones are not needed.  We will reach out in the future should this change.

We have high expectations for our students in regards to behavior both on this trip and in school.  Administration owns the right to remove any student from this trip for justified means if necessary.  We are looking forward to a memorable and educational day at the zoo and are excited to bring this trip to our 7th grade class.  If you have any questions please do not hesitate to reach out at dwyer@mentorschools.org.
