Dear Whānau
This letter outlines our initial organisation for taking all our Year 6 leaders to the National Young Leaders Day in Palmerston North to be held at the Regent Theatre.
It also includes a permission slip that we would like you to fill in so we can confirm the number of tickets we have booked.
We hope to have all 37 Year 6 students attending with Mr Anderson, Mrs McAllister and Mrs Morris.
We have booked a bus with seat belts to transport us to and from Palmerston North.
To meet the starting time of 9.30am we would need all students at the front gate by 5.00 am! Our
aim is to be back at school by 7.30pm. This includes a short stop at Virginia Lake on the way there and on the way back for a toilet stop and to stretch our legs. We plan as in other years to have tea in Hawera at McDonalds on the way back.
“The event programme will benefit any student who demonstrates a willingness to develop their leadership skills.”
THE PROGRAMME
NYLD events include motivational talks from great New Zealand leaders, question times, videos, music and interactive activities. The speaking team consists of leaders in business, sport, politics, community service, science and the arts. There is a strong sense on the day that the baton is being passed, as an older generation of leaders imparts their wisdom into the emerging generation of young leaders. The message of the day develops, as students are challenged not only to reach their own personal goals but the goals of those they are leading.
The theme this year, which is built around a whakataukī –
He aha te kai ā te rangatira? He kōrero, he kōrero, he kōrero.
What is the food of a leader? It is conversations.
This year, NYLD is all about the power of conversations. We want our young people to be inspired to listen, learn and lead, by starting conversations that will change the world.
Check out this awesome video about the theme here.
The cost per child will be $20 (the tickets are $45.00 each and have been paid through school fundraising - early bird price) the cost per child has been subsidised by money raised through the selling of juices and pizza last year and through term 1 and the continuation of this in term 2. We encourage all our Year 6 students to support Pizza and Juice sales!
We will let you know when we need the payment by. At this stage we just ask that permission forms come back to school as soon as possible.
Once we have permission forms in and have completed more organisation we will let you know further details.
Thanking you
Brendon and Merryl
