SkyView Academy is committed to preparing students to be lifelong learners and honorable leaders of tomorrow.
SkyView Academy (SVA) is a preschool-12th grade public charter school authorized by the Douglas County School District. Public charter schools in the state of Colorado are tuition-free for grades 1-12. This policy outlines the approved enrollment process for SkyView Academy Charter School grades Kindergarten through 12th.
SkyView Academy Charter School is a public school of choice, and parents must request enrollment into the school by participating in the open enrollment process through Douglas County School District (DCSD) for K-12. For more information on the DCSD Open Enrollment process, click HERE .
The SVA Preschool Application is a separate process from the DCSD open enrollment process. Preschool Applications may be obtained from the school website www.skyviewacademy.org or click on svak12.org for the form. The COMPLETED Preschool Application must be submitted to SVA via personal delivery, U.S. postal mail service, or email to the PK Director. All in-person completed applications need to be submitted at the East front office entrance during normal school hours.
Open Enrollment at SkyView Academy Charter School does not guarantee enrollment for the potential student, nor does it legally bind families to enroll in SkyView Academy.
Once enrolled in SVA, students are automatically enrolled for the following academic year unless SVA receives a withdrawal form and/or written communication from a parent/guardian stating that the child will not be returning. SVA requests families not intending to return inform the Registrar as soon as possible. Families who have decided to withdraw by contacting the Registrar, are encouraged to go through the exit interview process with their school Principal.
Priority for Open Enrollment
Priority for enrollment will be given to the following groups of students ONLY during round one of open enrollment:
Other Priorities for Open Enrollment
Twins, Triplets, and other multiples will be placed on the waiting list beneath the sibling with the higher wait list placement.
Beginning June 1st, during second round open enrollment, siblings of students who have accepted an offer will be placed at the top of the waitlist.
Douglas County School District (DCSD) Open Enrollment Policy
All SVA students and families have made a choice to attend SVA. Colorado law allows students to attend any public school with space available and SVA will always support school choice. Please refer to the DCSD website (https://dcsdk12.org) for their current open enrollment policy, but keep in mind, SVA is not classified as a neighborhood school.
SVA will be conducting the First Round of the open enrollment process per the DCSD open enrollment policies. For more information, please refer to our website at www.skyviewacademy.org for details and FAQ’s on SVA enrollment procedures.
Students with Special Needs
While SVA intends to serve the needs of all children who wish to enroll, similar to all Douglas County schools, the school may not be capable of serving the diverse needs of every student. To that end, parents must provide all relevant documentation for any student requiring specialized services including, but not limited to, an Individual Education Plan for special education, a 504 plan, a Behavior Plan, a Safety and/or Containment Plan, a literacy and/or tutoring plan, etc., at the time they accept enrollment. After enrollment has been offered and accepted, a team, consisting of SVA and DCSD employees, will meet to discuss how best to meet the needs of the student. If the team determines that SVA is not the best placement to meet the needs of the student, parents and school Administration will work together with the DCSD and the prior serving school to determine the best placement as well as facilitate the transition process when applicable.
Should a vacancy be created after open enrollment closes,, the vacancy will be filled pursuant to DCSD administrative transfer process as specified in the “Priority for Enrollment”, noted above. A student who fills a vacancy will be considered a currently enrolled student, and that student’s enrollment will continue beyond the current academic year. Should a vacancy open up after October 1st, it will be the decision of the Executive Director working with school Principals to fill that vacancy or leave it open until the next open enrollment period.
Military and Other Transfers
If any SVA family is subject to a military transfer, space will be made available for students of that family upon their return. The reservation will last for three (3) years. Before leaving SVA, the impacted military family will provide documentation of the transfer and a statement declaring the planned return date. All non-military transfers are at the discretion of the Executive Director working with the school Principals.
It is the intention of SkyView Academy Charter School to be fair and equitable to all potential students. SVA will not discriminate against any student based on race, creed, color, gender, national origin, religion, ancestry, disability, socioeconomic status, or need for special education.
