SkyView Academy is committed to preparing students to be lifelong learners and honorable leaders of tomorrow.
SkyView Academy (SVA) is a preschool-12th grade public charter school authorized by the Douglas County School District. This policy outlines the approved enrollment process for SkyView Academy Charter School grades Kindergarten through 12th.
SkyView Academy Charter School is a school of choice, and parents must request enrollment into the school by participating in open enrollment process through Douglas County School District (DCSD) for K-12. Click HERE for more information on enrollment at SkyView Academy K-12.
The SkyView Academy Preschool Application is open prior to DCSD’s open enrollment period (see below). The Preschool Application is to be submitted to SkyView via personal delivery, U.S. postal mail service, email, or by fax. Preschool Applications may be obtained from the school website www.skyviewacademy.org or click on svak12.org for the form. Applications must be completed and submitted in person at the East Front office. during normal school hours.
Requesting enrollment at SkyView Academy Charter School does not guarantee enrollment for the potential student, nor does it legally bind families to enroll in SkyView Academy.
Priority for Enrollment
Priority for enrollment will be given to the following groups of students, prior to the lottery:
Douglas County School District (DCSD) Open Enrollment Policy
All SkyVIew students and families have made a choice to attend SkyView Academy Charter School. Colorado law allows students to attend any public school with space available and SVA will always support school choice. Please refer to the DCSD website (https://dcsdk12.org) for their current open enrollment policy, but keep in mind, SkyView Academy Charter School is not classified as a neighborhood school.
Once enrolled in SVA, students are automatically enrolled for the following academic year unless SkyView receives a withdrawal form from a parent/guardian stating that the child will not be returning. SkyView Academy requests families not intending to return let the school know as soon as possible. Families who have decided to withdraw are encouraged to go through the exit interview process with the school Principal.
SkyView Academy will be conducting the open enrollment process per the Douglas County School District open enrollment policies.
Currently (2017-12018 school year), the DCSD policy and procedure details include::
Additional SkyView specific enrollment policies
If an incoming kindergarten student has accepted enrollment and is determined by staff and/or parents to benefit by waiting a year, it is up to the school Administration to work with the family to determine what is in the best interest of the child.
While SVA intends to serve the needs of all children who wish to enroll, similar to all Douglas County schools, the school may not be capable of serving the diverse needs of every student. To that end, parents must provide all relevant documentation for any student requiring specialized services including, but not limited to, an Individual Education Plan for special education, a 504 plan, a Behavior Plan, a Safety and/or Containment Plan, a literacy and/or tutoring plan, etc., at the time they accept enrollment. If it is determined that SkyView is unable to meet the needs of the student, parents and school Administration will work together with the Douglas County School District and the prior serving school to initiate the transition process.
Should a vacancy be created prior to or after the school year has begun, the vacancy will be filled pursuant to DCSD policy and as specified in the “Priority for Enrollment”, noted above. A student who fills a vacancy will be considered a currently enrolled student, and that student’s enrollment will continue beyond the current academic year. Should a vacancy open up after October 1st, it will be the decision of the Executive Director working with school leaders to fill that vacancy or leave it open until the next open enrollment period.
Students enrolled in the SkyView Preschool program will receive priority for enrollment after siblings of currently enrolled K-12th grade families. If there are a large number of siblings, it is possible, though unlikely, for a preschool student to not be awarded a kindergarten seat. If this situation arises, preschool students will be prioritized based on their enrollment in the SkyView preschool.
Military and Other Transfers
If any SkyView family is subject to a military transfer, space will be made available for students of that family upon their return. The reservation will last for three (3) years. Before leaving SkyView, the impacted military family will provide documentation of the transfer and a statement declaring the planned return date. All non-military transfers are at the discretion of the Executive Director working with the school leaders.
It is the intention of SkyView to be fair and equitable to all potential students. SkyView will not discriminate against any student based on race, creed, color, gender, national origin, religion, ancestry, disability, socioeconomic status, or need for special education.
