Room Parents

Need volunteers for room parents (especially in the higher grades). Room parents are the go-to contact person for that classroom’s activities and information.

Websites and Social Media

Both FoSA and Short Avenue Elementary have their own websites. They are: http://friendsofshortavenue.org and http://www.shortavenue.org. To receive posts automatically, just “follow” at the bottom of any page  to get updates via email. There are also Facebook pages for FoSA and Short Avenue.

Fundraising

FoSA pays for Teacher’s Assistants, Latin and Art.

Shop for Short is an easy way for our school to get free money. Amazon is our number one way to make money (it adds up to thousand of dollars). Use the school rewards link at http://friendsofshortavenue.org every time you shop at Amazon. EScrip is another source of money. Fresh and Easy, many restaurants and Online Mall participates. Ralph’s grocery store gives money for your purchases. You must register your rewards card yearly after September 1. It is an easy way to make money for the school shopping for things you need anyway. Target Red card can be linked to our school. Boxtops made a few hundred dollars and can be done anywhere in the US. We are looking for a coordinator.

Flyers for the direct donation Pledge Drive will be going home. One of our goals is to get a camera. Last year Penny Wars raised $1431. Upcoming fundraisers will be See’s candy, In & Out Truck, Book Fair, Goodwill Donation and the Spring Festival. Our Fall Festival was cancelled last year due to lack of parent volunteers. Thanks to the effort of some parent parents, we did the Spring Festival and it was a big success. Volunteers are needed for the Book Fair and Walk and Talk tours.

Treasurer’s Report

Need volunteers to count coins for Penny Wars. Parent made promotional suggestions for Food Truck Night. She can get the Del Rey Jazz Band to play and get article write up with local newspapers. Sign-ups for Communication volunteers are welcomed. Suggestion was made for donations by recurring credit card payments.

New Ideas - Open Forum

Need suggestions for Restaurant Series. Chipotle gives 50% return, but we might not get again this year. Islands is a possibility. Pizza sale after school is popular. Dolphin Cafe bake sale can make $300 - $400 in 30 minutes. It makes money for classroom wishlist. We can have one once a month so all classroom get a turn.

Need volunteers for student morning walks before school starts. Basically a parent with boombox to lead walks for students who are early, so they can wake up and get exercise at the same time.

Look for the Parent Involvement mailing this week. Research shows  that parent involvement in a child‘s education improves student achievement.   You can get the 2015-2016 Handbook here.
