Subject: Concern Regarding Love and Deepspace, 2025 Best Mobile Game Winner
Dear gamescom team,
I’m writing as a global player of Love and Deepspace, which won Best Mobile Game at gamescom 2025. Many of us were proud to see a female-oriented romance game receive that recognition on an international stage. However, the game is now facing a serious global backlash after Papergames/Infold promoted its newly announced sixth love interest, Valko/Ao Yin, publicly reassured players that he was part of the game’s long-term content plan, and then abruptly cancelled his launch and all future development only days later.
This decision has left many global players feeling misled and discarded. The backlash is already visible: petitions to restore Valko have reached a combined 300,000 signatures, the official Instagram account have dropped from about 1 million followers to around 925,000, and the game’s ratings have fallen sharply on both the Apple App Store (4.3 to 3.1) and Google Play (1.3). I wanted to bring this to your attention because it is deeply disappointing to see a game honored as Mobile Game of the Year treat its international player base this way less than a year later. Many global players are asking how a game celebrated for its worldwide success can now disregard the very audience that helped make it successful.

Subject: 主题: 关于敖尹(Valko)取消决定的全球玩家诉求与游戏优化建议 / Feedback regarding Valko’s global cancellation and gameplay optimization
Dear Infold Games / Love and Deepspace Team,
We are writing this letter as a collective of devoted global players who genuinely love Love and Deepspace and care deeply about its sustainable future. The sudden announcement regarding the absolute cancellation of Valko (Ao Yin) and the decision to never introduce a sixth love interest has left the international community deeply heartbroken and uncertain about the game's direction.
We fully understand and respect the gravity of the sensitive issues that led to the recent backlash in the Chinese server. The historical insensitivity regarding the placeholder data and the aggressive tone of the localized promotional dialogues (which many rightfully felt shifted into non-consensual undertones) are severe structural mistakes. We agree that these errors required immediate corporate accountability, profound apologies, and strict internal alignment.
However, a failure in marketing, scriptwriting, or regional localization should be met with a rigorous narrative rewrite, character sanitization, or an extended postponement to fix the presentation, not the absolute global erasure of a fully realized asset. Scrapping a completed character days before launch sets a dangerous corporate precedent, signaling that long-term content is vulnerable to total deletion rather than professional adjustment. This decision effectively penalizes the global audience for an internal development oversight, severely damaging our long-term trust and financial confidence in Infold.
To restore player confidence, reassure the global community, and ensure the game’s healthy expansion, we urge you to reconsider this total cancellation. We would gladly accept an extended delay to properly rework Valko's character. Concurrently, we strongly hope Infold will consider implementing the following structural improvements to strengthen both gameplay and player trust as the roster stands:
We truly hope Infold chooses open communication, transparency, and rigorous content refinement over absolute erasure. We want to see Love and Deepspace grow successfully across all global regions for many years to come.
Thank you for your time, consideration, and dedication to improving the player experience.
Sincerely, The Global Love and Deepspace Player Community

`Hi! I wanted to ask the Love and Deepspace team to keep Valko's launch. I agree he deserved more time in the spotlight before the launch, deserved more build-up, but genuinely I've been so excited for him. Please reconsider your decision on removing him. For all the negativity, there are so many more people out here who do want him around. Don't give up on us!`
`Valko was a highly anticipated addition to the game and many Global fans find this decision to remove him to be poorly thought out. We love him already and want the love and care that his artists and writers poured into him to be made available to his fans. Please reconsider and bring Valko back! Especially out of respect for the artists, writers, and his voice actors!`
Dear Infold,
We are writing because we genuinely love Love and Deepspace and care deeply about its future. That's why the announcement that Valko's launch has been canceled and that there will no longer be a sixth love interest has been so heartbreaking. So many players were excited for his release, and many of us had been looking forward to seeing the game continue to grow with another love interest. We sincerely ask that you reconsider this decision. Please keep Valko's launch and take the time to directly address the concerns players have raised rather than removing him entirely. Canceling a character that so many people were anticipating doesn't resolve the underlying issues—it only creates more disappointment and uncertainty within the community. More than anything, we need communication. Right now, players are left relying on rumors and social media posts because there hasn't been enough direct information from Infold. Please speak to us openly. A clear statement explaining your plans, your reasoning, and the future of the game would go a long way toward rebuilding trust. We also hope you'll consider implementing improvements that would strengthen both gameplay and player confidence:
These kinds of changes would reassure players far more than removing anticipated content. They would demonstrate that Infold is listening to its community, improving the player experience, and investing in the future of Love and Deepspace. Please don't let Valko disappear. Many of us weren't just excited for his character—we were excited because the game was finally expanding with a sixth love interest. Taking that away feels like the game is moving backward instead of forward. We truly hope you'll reconsider this decision and choose communication, transparency, and meaningful improvements instead. We care deeply about Love and Deepspace, and we want to see it continue to grow for many years to come. Thank you for taking the time to read this and for considering the feedback of the community that has supported your game and wants to see it succeed.
To whom it may concern,
The release of a 6th Love Interest has been a highly anticipated topic since the confirmation of post-launch LIs. Hints have been scattered all throughout the game, and many players - myself included - have been extremely excited for his release. So to see his cancellation is beyond disappointing as it caters towards hateful rhetoric instead of sticking to what is best for the story and characters. To listen to these hateful fans that would resort to death threats is to set a dangerous precedent that they can get away with anything they like so long as they’re loud enough about it. The disdain for Global is clear in the conversations around Valko and his cancellation, and as a paying Global player I’m asking that you not cave to pressure and release him as scheduled. Many players are already leaving over this decision, and I will be one of them if this is not rectified. I will also make a point to recommend that others leave the game or stay away from Love and Deepspace and all future games by inFold/PaperGames. You will lose your global market if you stick by this decision. Let Valko be released and don’t let the entitled, hateful fans get their way.
Dear Infold Customer Support / Development Team / Management Team.
I am writing to formally express my deep concern and disappointment regarding the recent decisions made concerning the character Valko.
The decision to completely remove this character without conducting a comprehensive survey or consulting the international player base is highly concerning. Major development shifts of this nature, executed without broader community input, fundamentally neglect the international market and negatively impact the company's reputation regarding player collaboration.
Furthermore, I would like to address a critical financial matter shared by a significant portion of the community. Many players, including myself, invested real-world currency to pre-farm resources specifically for Valko. Given that this character was abruptly removed without prior in-game or social media announcements, the player base is understandably seeking a formal resolution.
On behalf of myself and the affected community, I request a full refund or equivalent compensation for the financial investments made toward this character.
I trust the company will handle this matter with the appropriate gravity and provide a mature, reasonable solution for its international players. I look forward to your prompt response.

Subject: NEWS TIP: Multi-million dollar gacha 'Love and Deepspace' cancels upcoming character days before launch amid major international PR crisis
Body: Hello,
I wanted to share a major, unprecedented event currently unfolding in the mobile gaming industry that deserves press coverage.
Infold Games has just announced the absolute, global cancellation of "Valko" (Ao Yin), a fully developed, 3D romanceable character for their flagship title Love and Deepspace, just days before his official July 9th launch and scheduled showcase at Anime Expo 2026.
The sudden erasure comes after severe backlash in the Chinese market due to internal corporate blunders, including localization discrepancies where the Chinese script featured highly controversial, predatory themes, and an alarming internal placeholder code ("A-0731") that inadvertently referenced WWII war crimes (Unit 731).
While the developer opted for total cancellation to avoid regulatory sanctions in China (which accounts for 76% of their revenue), this decision has effectively penalized and alienated the global player base, who had no part in the controversy and are now organizing a massive financial boycott.
This is a rare, unprecedented corporate move where years of asset development and international marketing have been wiped out overnight due to cross-cultural PR mismanagement.

Hello IGN team,
I wanted to send a tip about a major developing controversy in the Love and Deepspace fandom.
Today, the official Love and Deepspace account announced that Valko, the game’s newly revealed sixth love interest, has been canceled.
This is especially notable because Valko had only just been announced as the game’s sixth male lead, with his debut planned for Version 6.0. His reveal triggered intense backlash, particularly from parts of the Chinese player base. Much of the criticism focused on his appearance, his “Westernized” design, and the belief that his addition would take resources away from the existing love interests.
However, the backlash appears to have gone far beyond normal criticism. Players have been circulating reports and screenshots alleging death threats, harassment, funeral-themed protest items, cow dung being sent to or left near the company’s HQ, and discriminatory comments aimed at the character’s perceived Western appeal and werewolf-coded/queer-coded presentation. There have also been widespread accusations from global fans that some of the backlash included racist and homophobic rhetoric.
The reason I think this is newsworthy is that the company appears to have fully capitulated to the most hostile side of the backlash. By canceling Valko outright after his reveal, many players feel Love and Deepspace is effectively rewarding harassment and discriminatory fandom behavior rather than drawing a line against it. Fans who were excited for Valko are now upset not only because the character was canceled, but because the decision seems to validate the harassment campaign against him.
This could be a significant story about live-service games, otome fandom, Chinese/global player-base tensions, and what happens when companies respond to extreme fan backlash by removing announced content.
Thank you for looking into it.

Please consider leaving the CN server as it is but restore Valko for all other servers. The CN players have spoken, so be it, please let the rest of us represent ourselves. Fans from all over in all of the other servers were so looking forward to this breath of fresh air, warm-hearted, and lively character. We have also been waiting for at least a year (with that "Coming Soon" clearly indicating a 6th LI would arrive) for Valko's arrival. Now he's here, some of us bought the pass, we recruited new players who love Valko's energy, we started our fan pages, made fan art...we were ready and excited to accept him. And without any care for our feelings; our money spent; and our love for the character the devs, and artists, and writers at Infold lovingly created, the character was just ripped away from us, just as our excitement and attachment was rising.
Most importantly, some of your most serious global fans TRULY loved the story. We loved looking for easter eggs and contemplating theories and symbolism. We tried to meet the passion you showed for the character and story with our own. Now you are, overnight, completely rewriting the story. Clearly Valko was planned from the beginning, anyone paying close attention in the game new this and was so excited to see how all of the threads would be pulled together. And now here we are. Absolutely devastating.
CN server is what it is, and I respect that. But PLEASE give the rest of the servers, the rest of us who love the game, and the story, and Valko, the REAL story we've been building up to and a character that was clearly so full of warmth and joy. WE LOVE AND WANT VALKO.
