General Field Guidelines for SOCCA Recreational Soccer

SOCCA Board Members (SOCCER COPS) must be present wearing a Blaze Orange Vest to make sure games are starting and stopping on time as well as (as far as our ability) being played fairly. Board Members have jurisdiction over all SOCCA programs.

Fields 1 and 2. (Up to 8 Players maximum and a Keeper, Ball size 5)

  1. Games Times on Fields 1 and 2 consist of either four 10 minute quarters split by 3 minute breaks or 2 halves of 24 minutes each split by a 4 minute break as agreed by the coaches. If coaches can not agree, quarters are played as described above. Start and stop on time.
  2. Coaches, spectators and parents should be along the sideline or away from the field of play and not enter the field other than for warm-ups or an injury or unless the Official requires their presence on the field. Only Coaches and Assistants should enter the field. Coaches should stay on their half of the field while on the sideline.
  3. No persons are permitted near the goal other than the Keeper. No coaching near the goal.
  4. Off-sides is called on Fields 1 and 2 at the discretion of the Official. A player in off-sides position is not called unless they interfere with the keeper or affect the play by gaining advantage or per OHSAA rules.

Field 3. (Up to 10 Players maximum and a Keeper, Ball size 5)

  1. Games Times on Field 3 consist of up to two 38-40 minute halves for High School and Travel Teams, two 25 minute halves for 5th-6thgraders all split by a up to a 5 minute break. The halves can be less time by agreement of the coaches. If coaches can not agree, 38 minutes halves are played. Games must start and stop on time.
  2.  Coaches, spectators and parents should be off the sideline and away from the field of play and not enter the field other than for warm-ups or an injury or unless the Official requires their presence on the field. Coaches should stay on their half of the field on the sideline.
  3. Off-sides is called according to OHSAA/FIFA. A player in off-sides position is not called unless they interfere with the keeper or affect the play by gaining advantage or per OHSAA rules.

Fields 4, 5 and 6. (Up to 7 players maximum and a Keeper, Ball size 4) 

  1. Game Time consists of 4 ten minute quarters with up to 3 minutes in between each quarter and up to 4 minutes at half time to rest, get water and receive instructions from the coaches.
  2. Coaches and Assistant Coaches (are permitted, one per team to be on the field) of play with the younger age groups to help teach the players the game of soccer.
  3. (One) Assistant Coach or Parent (is permitted) near the goal to help guide the younger group of players in learning to be a Keeper. Guidance here should be given from off field.
  4. Coaches, spectators and parents should otherwise be on the sideline or away from the field of play and not enter the field other than for warm-ups or an injury or unless the Official requires their presence on the field. Coaches may choose to be on or off the field to coach.
  5. No Off-Sides is called, no direct kicks or penalty kicks are taken on fields 4, 5 or 6.

In all cases, if time does not allow for 5 to 7 minutes in between each game, the official shall cut the last quarter or half short at his/her discretion to buffer the games by this amount.
