When asked on conditions in the trenches he explains that they are still very good and, on the whole, very comfortable.
| Regarding his biggest achievement, Wheelan was quoted as saying, “I guess for me, deciding to leave home was a big accomplishment and made me what I am today. Surviving Gallipoli. Every day is a gift, everyday is an opportunity to fight and win.” When questioned on the topic of his late brother, Eddie, Dan just said that he died from some fatal disability and passed away. He was quoted as saying, “We had a long journey from home to Port Macquarie, it was dangerous, and sadly, my brother was younger than me and suffered from some kind of disability which is hard to explain and he didn't make it.” Dan is currently fighting in the battle of the Somme and is unaware of the current whereabouts of his family. He was reported as saying he saw his mother, who had run to the Port. He thought it was easier to not let her know that he's here. Soldiers, Dan amongst them, fighting in battle | ENLIST TODAY!
