| What items are use in a baptism? | - Gather the children on the rug and remind them that they are very special, and we belong to a special family.
- Show the children of Baptism.
- Explain that Baptism welcomes them into God’s family.
- Show the children a bowl of water.
- Ask: What water is use for?
- Remind them that when we had a wilted plant, we gave it water and the water brought it back to life.
- Distribute Activity P. 103.
- The teacher will read the top of the page to the children. Explain that all of us are God’s children. We are a special family, the Church.
- Point out the baby in the picture. Explain that when they were babies, they were baptized, and became children of God.
- Gather godparents, doll, water, and a candle.
- Have the children in a circle and act out a Baptism.
- Then welcome baby doll into the family of God.
- Ask: What is use in a baptism? What happens when we pour water on a wilted plant? To what family do you and your family belongs to when you are baptized?
- Gather children around and lead them in the following prayer: “Dear God, thank you for making me part of a special family called the Church.”

- Teach the children the song which will be sung during the prayer service (Read to Me Page 105): “Shine, Shine, Shine Your Light.”
- Give each child a cup cake.
- Help each child spread icing on the top to decorate with sprinkles. then add a birthday candle.
- Line cupcakes up on the table to form a cross.
- Have the children sing the song, “Shine, Shine, Shine Your Light.”
- Tell the children that we are celebrating that we are part of God’s family and that we have the light of Jesus in us.

- Make an outline of a church with masking tape on the floor.
- Place a cross at the top.
- Have the children cross-legged on the masking tape forming the outline of the church.the teacher will take pictures of the children to show they make up the Church.

- Direct the childrens’ attention to the rays of light across the page.
- Remind the children that Jesus if our Light, and we shine with his light for everyone to see.
