White Team Swims To Victory At Winter Session Conference Meet!

Swimmers, parents, coaches, and other spectators brought the roof down with cheering last Sunday at the aquatic center for the Schroeder Conference Championship Meet.  White Team swam to the gold medal, Red Team won the silver, and Blue Team the bronze.  The meet was capped off with lots of cookies and other treats at the all team social.

Thank you to all the parents who helped run the meet.  We couldn’t do it without you!

An anonymous source pointed out that despite winning numerous dual meets since the conference began, the Red Team has yet to win a conference championship meet.  So stay tuned for the spring session to find out who will win the dual meets and the coveted conference spring championship!  Link to Conference meet photos - thanks Tom!

1. Good Luck At The 12 & U Wisconsin State Championships:

The 12 & Under WI State Meet, hosted by Elmbrook Swim Club, is this weekend 2/27-3/1 at Waukesha South High School Pool.  Good luck to all of our state qualifiers!

2. Attention 12 & Under Swimmers!  Mark Your Calendars for Special Guest Hannah Saiz this Monday, March 2nd:

Don’t miss our special guest presenter at Greendale High School Pool, this Monday, March 2nd.  Schroeder’s Hannah Saiz will lead two one hour sessions, assisted by Coaches Ann and Jourdie.  Hannah will work directly with the swimmers, and she will get in the water and demonstrate underwaters, breakouts, and starts.

Hannah placed second in the 200 Fly at USA Swimmings’ December National Championships, and she will be representing Schroeder at the 2016 Olympic Trials in Omaha, NE.

If your swimmer usually attends practice at the Cudahy training center, this event is in addition to the regularly scheduled practices for the first week of March.

We’d like to divide the time by age/ability as much as possible, so the first session goes from 4:45 - 5:45 and is for 8 & Under swimmers.

The second session is for 9 and overs, from 5:45 -6:45.  If your family’s schedule conflicts with the breakdown of the ages, please bring your swimmer to the session that works best.  It’s more important that your child attend.

Parents, you’re invited as well.  It’s a great opportunity to hear Hannah’s story and watch one of our team’s top national swimmers.  Hope to see you all at Greendale.

3. Come Celebrate At Ferch’s 1950’s Style Malt Shop and Grill:

On Thursday, March 19th, AG 1, AG 2, AG 3, Schroeder Stars, Super 8’s, and SuperStars will take over Ferch’s Malt Shoppe to eat yummy food and have some fun.  Ferch’s is located at 5636 Broad St., in the Village of Greendale.  We’ll meet there at 6:00 p.m.  Swimmers and their families, including siblings, are invited.  Order off the menu, then find the group.  Ferch’s knows we’re coming and has designated an area for us (although there’s a good chance we’ll probably take the place over :).  Y State qualifiers can come over right after their practice at Greendale.

The coaches have a few prizes and surprises planned for swimmers in attendance, so please come so you don’t miss the fun.

4. This Week’s Practices:

5.  Championship Meet Information:

As we enter our championship leg of the swimming season, there’s a whole lot of swimming going on, so here’s a summary:

A.  Wisconsin State Championships: The 12 & Under and 13 & Over WI State Championships are for swimmers who have achieved a qualifying time for an event(s).  The 12 & Under WI State Meet is 2/27-3/1 at Waukesha South High School Pool, and the 13 & Over WI State Meet is 3/5-3/8 at the Rec Plex.

      B.  Wisconsin YMCA Sectional Championship (3/14-15) @ Pabst Farms YMCA in Oconomowoc:

For Groups: S1, S2, J1, J2, AG1, AG2, AG3, Super 8s, SuperStars, Schroeder Stars Reminder - Sign up closes the evening of Feb. 25th!

This is the major YMCA championship meet for all swimmers who do not have WI State YMCA time standards or need more.  It’s also the final winter session meet for swimmers who do not have Y State qualifying times, plus it’s a fun meet w/good awards.

Please plan to compete.  Commit your swimmer today and join in on the fun.

     C.  Wisconsin YMCA State Championship (3/20-22) @ WSAC:  This meet is only for swimmers who have achieved a qualifying time (a time standard) in an event(s). All qualifiers must participate in their individual events and relays. This is the final meet of the winter session for all swimmers with Y State times.

As mentioned, swimmers must achieve a time standard to compete in an event at Wisconsin US Swimming and YMCA State Championship Meets.

It’s very exciting when swimmers achieve their first state times whether it be for US Swimming or YMCA swimming.  Time standards are different for each meet; ask your swimmer’s coach for a copy.

There is one major difference in the two state meets that you need to be aware of.  In the USA Swimming State Championships, the swimmer’s age is determined by the age on the first day of the meet.  In the YMCA State Championship, the swimmer’s age is determined by their age as of December 1st.  In other words, if a 10 year old swimmer turns 11 any time after December 1st, 2014, he/she will still compete in the 9-10 age group at the March YMCA Championship.

6. Signing Up For Meets On Your Swimmer’s Meet Schedule:
